Our heroes survived the lava, the ash falling from the sky, they survived the weather and wild beasts, they survived snakes crushing their bones, survived the traps in the temples they explored, only to die from a horrible diarrhea from something they ate 3 days before. Great playthrough! Really enjoyed every minute of it

It is never the volcano that kills you. It's always something you could have, and probably should have, avoided. Most of my Robinson Crusoe deaths are preceded by me saying, "I'm sure it'll be fine." 😂 Thanks for checking out the playthrough!

How could you do this to me!! This was so good. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I'm still astounded that this game somehow knows everything, and always screws you over EXACTLY when you don't want to be screwed over in that particular way, i.e. the end of this vid. Thanks for another banger.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! The simple way the cards go into the event deck and come back later results in such great narrative moments. And I only have myself to blame for making those decisions. The design just works and it feels fantastic, at least to me. Thanks so much for supporting the channel!

Your videos are insanely good as always! This one was great! I like the deluxe components, neat presentation, and careful explanation about strategy and playing the role in this game! The events in this game and final was intriguing and unpredictable. This is a great video that motivates you to play the game as well! I played this scenario a few times and the course of events was always so terrible that I thought I play something incorrectly. Haven't seen your game all the rules I have played correctly but bad decisions and bad luck keep me far away from winning this. Waiting for more!

Great video as always Shaggy! Would love you to continue doing more of the scenarios! A quick correction: a couple of times there you stopped drawing treasure cards after exploring a totem. However there’s a special rule on the scenario sheet that says you have to draw all the specified number of treasure cards (irrespective of whether one of the cards tells you to stop).
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled Жыл бұрын
Nope, I was doing that correctly. You must stop if the card tells you to stop. You cannot choose to stop on your own, which is something you can normally do when drawing mystery cards. This is a rule many people misunderstand. Thanks for watching, Jay.
@jaybear7272

@@TotallyTabled ah, ok! I read the special rule on the sheet as meaning you had to draw all (say) 4 treasure cards, no matter what the cards themselves said. I actually only narrowly lost this scenario one evening last week playing that way, but clearly I made it even harder on myself!

Great video! Absolutely adorable! Yesterday I played Robinson Crusoe for the very first time (and a second time today) and I love this game. I love it even more after watching your video. It seems to be better not playing true solo like I did, but multi handed instead. Seems to make sense as it gives you more actions per round which seems to be more interesting and fun.

Thanks, Oliver. Yes, I definitely prefer playing 3-handed. It is just the right number of actions for me. Once you get familiar with each character's 4 abilities, it becomes the best way to play. @TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled Жыл бұрын
I honestly love a narrow defeat in a survival game, sometimes even more than a narrow victory and certainly more than a crushing victory. For me, RC always delivers that photo finish, and I can always see what I did wrong. In this game, not building that roof and getting hit by the snow during the weather phase was the critical mistake. Now, I took a calculated risk there and you have to do that to win. The die screwed me, but I'm the one who choose to take the risk. The game is perfectly fair, but it is unforgiving. I personally love that! Thanks for checking it out!

@@TotallyTabled yesterday i had a whole day session with 2 of my buddies. I made up a story. We were treasure hunters looking for a mythical island in the pacific. Our ship got rect and we got off with 2 crew members and 6 items. First scenario was rescue jenny. If we managed that she would join as another crewmember (the artist), if she died she died. Then we moved on to cannibal island as we learned the place was filled with them. Friday also joined then. One of our crewmates was eaten. When we killed the city then we went on to the last scenario with the volcano island. I told my friends the funny story of another crew who died in diarreah :) We managed to get off the island and what an adventure we had. It was a bit easy though. We were just incredibly lucky all the time. Next time we pick less crewmates :) Good stuff

Didnt love Robinson when i played it, but did love Frostpunk. Later it occurred to me that they have a ton of similarities, did I miss something with Robinson, or should i trust my gut and just stick to enjoying Frostpunk? Do you think they are similar?
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. The bones of Frostpunk are definitely Robinson Crusoe. The event system is the same, but with more complexity (and also more fiddly). The morale system is similar but more complex in Frostpunk, and it ties into the events, which is cool. Scenario structure, worker placement, feeding workers, sheltering workers ... it is all the same but more complex and more fiddly in Frostpunk. I think what people fall to appreciate about Robinson Crusoe is how streamlined it is and the amount of crunchy decisions and variety of stories that emerge from such streamlined gameplay. That is what elevates it for me over Frostpunk (which is also one of my favorites). The perceived unfairness of RC is really just a lack of understanding of how to succeed and survive -- the game is unforgiving to new players, but it isn't unfair. Sorry for the essay but I could talk about this brilliant design all day. Thanks for watching!

@@TotallyTabled Not at all, it’s great to get a different opinion on it. Im trying to put my finger on why I like one and not the other. So far, I keep coming back to 3 differences. 1) you get far more actions in FP 2) the event decisions you make in FP are pretty difficult/satisfying 3) I’m in the camp that perceives RC as unfair, although as you said that one might be lack of experience
