I haven't read Robinson Crusoe (YET), but I have read Defoe's Journal of The Plague Year, so I did recognize a lot of what you said about the old language and the writing style. I'm not a native English speaker, and I sometimes struggle with focusing properly, so in the end that 200-something page book took me like half a year to get through. It was just non-stop writing, no chapters, old language, and Defoe really loves going off on tangents. I would like to read Robinson Crusoe at some point, because the other one was actually really interesting and taught me a lot about the people back then,, but honestly the idea that it'll take me that long again to get through a book stops me.

6 years later, I am also struggling to go through year of the plague. It feels like a giant newspaper article. Robinson Crusoe proved to be a much smoother read.

I just read this book last month. Very hard to get through, but I greatly appreciate it. I'm actually posting my video on it later today. The best thing about this book is that it's a great conversation starter on a lot of topics.

I have to read this book for uni. I'm french so English is my second language. You have nooo idea how comforting it is to hear you say that it can be a difficult read haha. Nonetheless, the story's quite riveting indeed :)

Hi there. it was very pleasant for me, I confess, to find such a beautiful account of one of my favorite stories judged by someone like you. I thoroughly liked your candid approach to the subject. I tried my best to enjoy the narrative but I'm also finding great joy in hearing and reading your own narrative. I confess I am not much a reader, but I do an try and find time for the classics wherever I can. Anyway, without dragging on this so called fan mail, it was very nice to meet you or become aware of you after reading of Robinson Crusoe. It was a little challenging for me, being an atheist to get on board with the adventure. But I never found me self wanting or set aback by the abundance of religious falk throughout the journey. I thought the god talk really put the reader in place to understand rather than preach. At any rate, I'd rather not ramble on. All this to say I quite enjoyed your take

Thank you for the video. My mum wants a copy to read and your video showed me how big the text is so I'll likely buy that version. I was looking at the penguin cloth cover version but the reviews are saying the pattern comes off the cloth very easily. Thanks for the review of the book.

Thanks for the interesting discussion. I enjoyed the book in general -especially considering how long ago it was written- though I did find it a bit pretentious at times. I think an abridged version, with pictures and for children, is fun for showing the adventure of life. It seems to me like an early version of some 'Count of Monte Cristo' tale.

I don't know whether your culture permits this kind of discourse, but I personally find it very insulting that you think you have the right to objectify me and demand that I change my appearance to your liking. This is not okay. Please learn that women to not like it and shouldn't have to be on the receiving end of these kind of comments.

and what makes you think your opinion is so important? Chareads is clearly already an intelligent and beautiful person who is capable of making her own choices (btw her teeth looks fine)
