Hi, You made mistake in Island tiles setup. According to rules - "11. Shuffle the remaining Island tiles and place them in a face down stack near the main board." You should not place them all on the board. That is a huge mistake, because some of abilities allow to look at some of tiles at the top of stack. Greetings from Poland! Me and my fiancee love your videos :)

I just saw the movie "The Martian", good movie by the way, and while watching it I thought this would make a great scenario using the systems in this game. You're stranded on Mars, you need to make repairs/upgrades to your habitat, grow food, survive the weather, and get to the rendezvous site in time to meet the rescue ship. Just need to invent some Martian beasts...

Great video, very interesting review. I guess your reviews of games are particularly smart, you first play for a long time so everyone can understand and get a precise idea of the game, and then you give your final thoughts. Far better than dice tower reviews and Co. Please continue.

One minor note: you really should keep the hexes in a stack next to the board because the Explorer can manipulate what comes next (draw 3, pick 1 for the top of the stack, shuffle the other two back in).

Thanks Rahdo - good video, it really helped me in understanding the game. Have to say though - this game is not for the faint of heart or anyone who likes to "win". This video focused on the easiest part of the scenario. By the time you reach month 7 you will probably be asking yourself "if you are actually playing the game right" because of how badly you will be doing. There is very little in the way of forgiveness. Relentless is an understatement. This "game" is highly thematic and you should go in with the mindset of the "journey not the destination". If you don't you will be very disappointed with this "game". Assume you will not win and just enjoy the ride.

13:15 Just noticed that "if players have not built a shelter yet, they can move their camp without any consequences. If they move it to an island tile with a shelter, it does not mean that they have built a shelter: i.e. do not turn the camp token shelter side up" pg 13 of rule-book.
@shumandaniele
@shumandaniele 10 жыл бұрын
Correct. He was in error when he flipped the token over. The difference is when you move camp again. If you haven't built a shelter, i.e. you are using the natural shelter on the explored hex, then any improvments (roof, etc.) are lost completely rather than divided by 2. The FAQ on BGG explains this pretty well.

Depends on what you consider formulaic... do you consider Axis & Allies to be formulaic? Strategy aside bad dice rolls by one side and good by the other can completely alter the outcome of a game, so I do not consider Axis & Allies to be such. By the same definition the amount of randomness to this games does not make it very formulaic to me (watch several Let's Play videos for it and see what I mean).

2 quick questions. I really want to play this with my friends but find the rule book to be poorly laid out. In round 3 when the otters attacked you covered the bird icon and not fish. Is that legal because food is food or does it have to be fish? You also tried to build the shovel after flipping the beach tile over. My question becomes are all things available to build once the black marker is placed on them or should the marker be taken off the shovel when the beach tile disappeared? Off to bgg to print that turn guide out. Thanks!

I am late to the game because I just got this game, but I don't see a time stamp correction for this so I may be wrong, but shouldn't the green question mark stay at 34:47 because it didn't get used? page 9 of rule book, "IMPORTANT ! Tokens located on the Action Fields are discarded after resolving their effect, while tokens located on other parts of the board usually stay there for the rest of the game." So this never got resolved because no one explored so doesn't it stay until someone does?

TyphoidBryan Robinson Crusoe is as unforgiving than DoW at its hardest, even though there's no traitor in Crusoe. Both are heavily-themed with mitigated dice-rolling, but the scenarios make more sense and are much more like scenarios in Robinson Crusoe, whereas in DoW the scenarios and secret objectives and daily objectives are basically arbitrary. If you want a traitor, get DoW. If you love zombies, get DoW. If you want a co-op, get Robinson Crusoe. If you want the better or better-themed game, get Robinson Crusoe. It's like comparing a Rogue-like with, say, Castlevania. One has more random variety and shallower, and the other is much better balanced and has greater depth.

I like your videos Rahdo, but for games like this it would be better if you were more prepared. This is an extremely hard game. I want your channel to succeed because a lot of your videos are helpful. But compare this video to your puerto rico video and it is clear that you have a greater understanding of that game vs this game. It is kind of confusing when you miss some of the concepts in complicated games like this. I still dont understand why you would have had to get rid of the sabre after the bear hunt because it looked like you didnt use it.
