You can use a candle to repel water on that bag, just rube candle wax onto the material of the bag. Next, use a heat gun or hair dryer to melt the wax to get down into the fibers. Sometimes you need to repeat more than once to get a good amount of wax into the fibers of the bag. Now they have sprays to protect fabric, long time ago I had some suede shoes and bought the spray that they had for shoes. It worked great even in heavy pour downs they never got wet.

This is so old school and I believe it will definitely work. Candle wax will really help

The bag looks really good, especially the colorway you have chosen. It would fit perfectly to my Pen-F. But I still have 2 bags. But your bag looks so good. I am thinking... Thanks for your video, stay safe and healthy Robin!

I have more bags than I need. Currently I am using the Sony LCS-SL10 as a camera insert to throw into a 20Litre backpack with the tripod, the backpack still has room for water bottle or may be a rain jacket or thin down jacket or umbrella, etc. The SL10 has room for 2~3 m43 lens, just take the whole thing out and start shooting. I also bought the Sony LCS-SL20 which is bigger and has four dividers, and the top section I can fit a water bottle inside the bag, whenever I don’t want to carry a tripod. The are dirt cheap and very well made, the padding is thick enough: the top flap is half an inch too thick, the nylon construction seems dense enough for occasional showers.

Nice bag indeed! It protects gear and doesn’t scream “I am CAMERA BAG” , attracting undesirable attention. Weather protection - yes, it is important in Malaysia. Rain. Drizzling. Humidity. But for simple walking bag - looks fine to me. You can get weather proofing spray designed to repel water (some hiking store may have it) and just spay it gently over bag. It will not make it waterproof ;) but it will help bag to protect your gear in case of rain.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'd get a raincoat. That's more practical.

Any bag made of material like canvas or other fabrics can be weatherproofed by spraying with a water-repellant spray. This is very commonly done on tents, fabric hoods on convertibles [cars], suede and leather shoes ... There are many waterproof sprays out there. One of the best known is 3m's 'Scotchguard'. In fact, furniture shops often offer an additional service for new sofas and armchairs in fabric and suedes - a complete over-all spray by Scotchguard to protect against that dreaded spill of red wine or worse - Ribena. A very cheap and important addition to bags like this that manufacturers should instal by default is a set of'buttons/pegs/feet on the bottom of the bag, to keep it clear of wet surfaces. These are cheap to buy and easy to fit - remove the padding from the inside of the bottom of the bag, fit a piece of thick card or thin, rigid plastic [cut the side out of a plastic bin or 5 litre flagon] and screw the feet onto bottom of the bag up into the new base. Use small bolts and nuts rather than screws. You don't want sharp screw points sticking up inside the bag. Replace the bottom padding.

I'd rather not spray anything on the bag. A raincoat is a lot more practical as well.

Thanks for sharing, very nice! I didn't want to spend A$130 at Harvey Norman for a camera courier bag, so I went and spent ten bucks on a cooler bag instead - perfect to carry and protect cameras from the rain whilst photographing fungi. Probably also more weather proof, and enough space for the Thermos, too ☕🥐🌦

Loved the bag - the lack of weather protection is a pity as England gets very wet ha ha . For now, I will retain my Billingham digital bag for walk about. When they come out with an all weather bag then will reconsider this in my next purchase .
@johnsmith-gs4qf3 жыл бұрын
While not fully "water proof", I noticed it said "Nylon material with excess water resistance" on the website. I think it should be ok in a light rain, but I wouldn't trust it in a downpour!
@robinwong3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I also feel that weather-resistance is quite necessary

Very nice looking bag at a good price. I would consider getting one of those really small and cheap rain "ponchos" and keep it inside the bag at all times in case it rains (or if you're a real Cheap Charlie can just use a free cheap plastic grocery bag).

I am definitely going to look for those raincoats

The trick with bags that have a fold-over flap is, when you are 'in action', to fold the flap back to lie down the back face of the bag. Then you only have to open the zip - or keep that open for instant access. Hnx do a bag with end pockets - the bigger Hnx Camera Bag... 020 Navy model

Greetings from southern Indiana, USA! So far, one of my favorite shoulder camera bags has been a Domke. I think he was a press photographer for a newspaper (perhaps in Philadelphia, but I'm not sure on that) who also became part of the group of photographers in the White House Press Photographers group. I may be mistaken on this, but I think they are not hired by the White House but allowed to be at the White House (and trips involving the President) to take photos for their papers. Still prestigious. Anyway, years ago Domke designed a shoulder camera bag, made of canvas, that I purchased while I was still shooting film. I remember that it held plenty! When I went to digital I also wanted a computer with me, which doesn't work well with the Domke. Just not big enough when I fly. I don't want my computer in check-in luggage, or other things like chargers, extra batteries, etc. -- especially if my luggage takes a more scenic trip than I do. (That hasn't happened yet, but in the future?) So I tend towards a ThinkTank shoulder bag. Certain things I can leave at the hotel and have room for water bottles, guide books, etc. However, around here, and car travel, I still use the Domke. I've gotten familiar with it. It's comfortable. I'm used to where things are. And it still holds plenty! I don't have all the film boxes, I seldom take more than 4 lenses and Olympus lenses are smaller than most digital lenses. But I do like the looks of that Honx. Will I get one in the future? Definite MAYBE. I'm trying to get over GAS!
@robinwong3 жыл бұрын
I don't think you can find Domke here. Never seen it in any camera shops, won't pop up in online shopping platforms also. I have heard of its good reputation, but you just can't get it here.

ROBIN PLEASE HELP if you can. I recently purchased E-M 10 MK IV (I've owned Olympus cameras since 1975) and I was hoping to be able to use my old OM prime lenses and my 4/3 zoom lenses with this camera. I realize that I will not be able to auto focus, but I cannot the lenses to focus clearly using the manual focus setting. Is there a setting on the E-M 10 MK IV that I am not using correctly, is this just a specific issue with the E-M 10 MK IV or is there another answer. I would well come any advise or suggestions that you might be able to offer. Thank you, Dale
