I ran the London Marathon 2022 and was hoping to get a sub 4-hour marathon time but just missed out. So I went to get my VO2 Max and Blood Lactate Threshold tested at www.thewoodlan... in Bideford, North Devon, ready to train for the Manchester Marathon 2023. I found out my fitness age and a load of other things, and tested how accurate my Garmin VO2 Max score is.

Just do the good old fashion Coopers test. More then accurate enough for age group athletes

Quality Rob. I’ve got the garmin fenix 5. My vo2 is 53 and I’ve just started training for a half marathon. Currently running 5.20min kilometres and hoping to get that down below 5mins soon. I’m 37 this yr. I’ll hopefully get to a full marathon before 40. Brilliant insights to your set up and plan

What was your 5k time when your Garmin watch gave you a Vo2max of 54?

Nice, man. Can't wait to hear how you do. I just started running 5 weeks ago, that seems like some testing I'd like to do.

Cheers :) Yeah that would be cool, get some numbers now while you're pretty new to it and then see how much progress you've made after 6/12 months.

So curious if you meant to use the A and 2 in the beginning 0:27 as a joke, or if that’s a for real error. Either way I love it

Really interesting video, cheers. I’m sure you’ll go well in your marathon... I think the experience you gained from the first can’t be underestimated, that and the training base you’ve built up from it. Would like to do something similar some time... unfortunately when it comes to the marathon I fear I’ve peaked, ran my pb this year at 44, don’t think I can go lower.. so only downhill for me!

@@RobMcGarr just under 3:40 and my Garmin says my V02 Max is 50... so sure you can beat that with the right training. The only way I could go quicker is to run more... my training for that marathon was 3 times a week, 10k steady run, 10k intervals, long run... any more though and my body starts to fall apart!

My VO2 max, I got a fitness age of a 42 year old, im in my late 30's, I can do 5k in 25minutes, I can run 10miles without walking or stopping, I run regular- but even though I feel healthy, i was into bodybuilding for years and i weighed 120kg, ive trimmed down to 98kg now- Garmin doenst like my weight regardless of how often i run lol

Great Doctor! I am suprised you have >51 and you only hope for 3 h 30 mins. This VO2 max is very good and you should be doing easily under 3 hours. My VO2 max is 54 and I did 2h48mins.

Testing results show 3hr 50 - 3h 52 Marathon time is possible. Marathon is typically run at lactate levels around2.5mM +/-0.5 On your test that value occurs around 11km/r (5.30min/km - 8.50min / mile) ish. Good luck

This was before training so I'm hopeful things have improved since then. I've now done a half in sub-1:35 and 20 miles at 8:20/mile (not pushing, just easy) so fingers crossed it carries across on the day!

One thing that kills me about all these you tuber's is they never run the VO2 Max to failure. Do it on a bike so you don't worry about falling out. Kudos on improvement 👍

Aerobic, threshold and?
@LR6092
@LR6092 Жыл бұрын
This guy's take on not upping mileage but just making sure you do one or two of each type of run every week is way off. It takes years to improve aerobically but weeks or months to improve anerobically. Don't be doing track sprints every week throughout training.
