I had an existing 25' copper chiller. The Robobrew chiller fit nicely inside it. I run both with one hose and a splitter. Between the two and pretty cold tap water, chilling takes 12 minutes.

Great video, was on the ropes about picking up this system but I think I'm going to. Can you guys suggest a good budget conical fermenter!? I'm tired of using carboys and want a fermenter I can harvest yeast and/or drain. Great content as well. subscribed.
@GenusBrewing6 жыл бұрын
I generally like to go stainless when I can - so either the SS Brewtech Chronicles or just their brew buckets would be where I'd put my money. The Fermentasauruses are pretty good for the price as well because of all the added utility.

What's sorachi Ace? And, what's it called, when you pulled the inner part up to drain off the mash? what were you doing? Please explain a better what you're doing in the videos so you know when you talk about just the title of something but we don't know what it is, it's difficult. Thanks a lot. Your video is great.

Well done guys. what are your thoughts and comparisons between the mash & boil and the robobrew? I personally still feel like unless you don't have your own wort chiller (perk of using M&B if you have one: you can change the sizes, use own pump, cool it down faster etc) Mash and boil is better bang for your buck. you guys should put them side by side with 5 gallons of water and see which one comes to a boil first. that would be a fun test. *cheers
@GenusBrewing6 жыл бұрын
Overall I think I agree the Mash & Boil is the better bang for your buck, but both worked pretty damn well. It would be sweet to do a 3-way competition between those two and the Grainfather!
@Ben-xj4vf6 жыл бұрын
I'd watch that. These look like great winter brewing systems for me (indoors, smaller scale). Good for test batches!
@skoue41656 жыл бұрын
Bang for Buck kind of depends. I bought a Robo V3 with out the pump for $320 so the difference was $21. The Robo has a larger capacity which was fairly important to me. Other deciding issues were that the double wall of the mash and brew while good for insulation makes adding anything to it very tricky. I may for instance add a heat stick to speed boil times and you can't do that with the double wall without a lot of work. I also liked the idea of playing with step mashes which is programmable in the RB. But I think that which is the better choice is going to be highly personal, because they are very close.
@skoue41656 жыл бұрын
To add to my last post. I swapped out the valve that comes with the RoBo for a conventional 1/2" SS valve. I wanted better flow and I wanted ti put CamLock fittings on everything. That change could be done on the M&B, I'm sure. Volume was a biggie for me, single wall was a close second.

Hi guys on the chiller after boil and last hop addition when do you start the chilling process strait away or you you let it sit for 10 min or so before chilling ?
@GenusBrewing6 жыл бұрын
We put the chiller in 5-10 minutes before the end of the boil. If we are doing a "flameout" addition we'll add that at the same time we turn on the chiller.

Just our version doesn't have a pump - there is a pump version as well. We got the no-pump so we could compare side by side with the mash n boil. For vorlauf we just used a pitcher.

After purchasing your Robobrew and brewing on the system... Would you recommend the version with the pump or stick with the one you have?
@GenusBrewing6 жыл бұрын
If you can spring for the one with the pump, I think that one has more overall utility, however we were very impressed with the pumpless one as well.
@skoue41656 жыл бұрын
I bought the one without a pump and swapped the valve out for a full 1/2" inch valve I could put a CamLock on and hooked it up to me chugger pump. All of these use small pumps like the solar recirculating pump you can get from Amazon for $25. THey work fine but they have smaller passages internally and can get bogged down or clock on pelet hop particles so you really need to use a spider. I have used the solar pump and it got bogged down at one point, the chugger never skipped a beat. In the end it's a bit like the choice between getting a receiver or a component stereo. If it all works it all works but if you have separate components you can fix or upgrade easier. The price difference is more than the cost of a pump so...
@mooseman69716 жыл бұрын
@@skoue4165 Dude you rock I've been looking for a comment like yours. I already had a pump and didn't want to pay more for the pump version.
@skoue41656 жыл бұрын
Works great with a "real" pump andc OK on the cheap one. I tried BIAB inside the malt pipe and my efficiency crashed big time. My next one is back to just the malt pipe that was close (I had the volumes off). The think is each system has it's sweet spot so what I do for my main system doesn't work as well for the RoboBrew. So I'm taking notes so I can go back and forth and be close enough. It's wort it (I think) because the RoboBrew is such an easy brew day. I will still use the bigger system when I need more volume but the Robo has been great for small batches. To your post, I would not buy the model with a pump. It's just not cost effective VS buying a pump separately. If $ are an issue the Amazon pump works fine. Know you might have to clear a clog but otherwise it's fine and 1/6 the price of a "proper" pump. If you have the scratch get a chugger or equivalent and you won't have to worry. I also got the brewjacket. It works well. You could probably do a DIY for less but it's under $20 and it works. If you have been doing a cooler Mash ton, the Robo is a lot less work. My efficiency is still lower, ie it is not the same workflow ( I herd but have not confirmed that longer mash times may help), but that said I am happy. I just have to figure out the workflow or toss a bit more grain in. Not sure yet wich.
@skoue41656 жыл бұрын
BTW I found the non pump version on Amazon for about $320. So that was the decider. Mash and brew is a bit smaller and a bit cheaper.

"Robobrew - Better than Mash & Boil?" You didn't answer the question in your title.
@GenusBrewing6 жыл бұрын
The title was indicating that it is still a question to us. :) They are both great, I would maybe lean towards the mash n boil for the price, or the robobrew if you got the whole system with a pump, but honestly they are both great systems. Hope that helps!
