This movie is amazing. It is not taking itself too seriously, it takes advantage of the R rating, it finds time for humorous in-universe news and adverts... It is bit dated graphically, but because of the style it took I do not think it matters, it is still rather enjoyable.

They actually pushed the limits of its R rating to the point they had to cut some really violent scenes, in order to avoid an X rating which would have limited the theaters it could play in (basically just adult theaters).

One of the main reasons I never watched "That 70's Show" was because I refused to see Smith as anything but as that awesome villian, Boddicker, or see him in any comedy. And I grew up in the 70's. I do remember seeing Smith in a brief military role in the movie "Broken Arrow". Which BTW is another over the top action film that Mary should definitely check out. Fun fact: if you listen to some of the behind-the-scenes features, Clarence Boddicker was inspired by the leader of the Nazi SS, Heinrich Himmler. The filmmakers were fascinated by the fact that a man of such incomparable evil could be such an ordinary man who wears glasses and does not exude physical power, so Clarence Boddicker is similar: he wears glasses and he is nothing special physically, but his mind is utterly evil.

The dude recognized Alex cause he said “dead or alive, you’re coming with me” before he died 😁
@ADifferentVibe
@ADifferentVibe 2 жыл бұрын
- Reason Alex didn't immediately die from the ambush at the beginning is he had body armor that kept him alive until the hospital. - Alex wasn't just chosen because he was a cop who died in the field; he was an HONEST, not corrupt, headstrong, good cop who wanted to do well in law enforcement...his mindset wouldn't let him go insane in the robot armor. So OCP took his brain and face when his body died...the essence of Murphy is in Robocop - Peter Weller was only the actor who was cheap enough, willing to be under the visor so his face isn't shown most of the movie, and can actually fit into the suit. Arnold and Stallone were considered but they were none of the above - Paul the director was not fluent in English and missed the point of the movie at first. His wife got the script out of the trash, read it and convinced him it has a lot more substance than he read first. The key scene was when Alex goes back to visit his family home after his dreams. - Total Recall, Starship Troopers and this movie is considered Paul's futuristic trilogy that really played to his over the top ultraviolence mixed with social commentary of society
@Deined
@Deined Жыл бұрын
Eh, your first point doesn't really take. Murphy's body armor actually didn't protect him because: - Boddicker's gang shot him with a lot of high-powered firearms that could penetrate it, and - They also shot him in areas that the armor wasn't covering. They shot his legs, literally blew off his arm, and blew a hole in his head. Just about the only reason Murphy survived long enough for the EMT's and doctors to futilely work on him was plot.
@Powerfull4u
@Powerfull4u 10 ай бұрын
@@DeinedEhm, that's what is actually shown in the movie, so it did. And it is not as crazy as you make it out to be : - Boddicker's gang wasn't using "high-powered firearms", they were using shotguns, powerful but not great at penetrating even modern armor without specialized ammunition, and this is "future" armor. They would probably still cause damage through the armor and the guy DID finally die, but not kill him on the spot. - Armor WAS covering his vitals. Them shooting him in other places would not be immediately fatal. Neither loosing his arm, nor having his legs shot would kill him on the spot. And the head shot was in the upper right area, probably only barely hurting his brain. People have survived headshots as well. - The man DID die. That his heart was still beating when he reached the hospital is not as far fetched as you make it sound.

I can't watch this movie and not think of high school, where we had one member of the security staff who was hypercompetent. The students' nickname for him? Robocop. Also, in addition to the other movies people are recommending (Total Recall, Starship Troopers and Hollow Man are all great and you should check them out too), Paul Verhoeven also did Basic Instinct.

"Now can a truck just run over him?" Oh, there's a truck and him being hit by a vehicle, but it's far more gratifying than his just being hit by a truck.

"I can tell this place is green-screen". Actually, that is Dallas city hall. Of course, they added about 80 or 90 floors, but that's the base.

Hello Merry. Love your channel. I am coming to you from Dallas, Tx in the US. This movie is set in Detroit but was all filmed right here in Dallas, Tx. I live in the historic DeepEllum district where the police station was filmed too. Right down the street. City Hall is tha actual bottom arch. The added a ton more floors. The entire area where the steel factory was is all but gone now and is now VictoryPark. High end high-rise apts and the arena where the Dallas Mavericks basketball team plays. The bldg where he hit the dude out the bldg...downtown Dallas. Anyway, a little info on the actual movie location. Again, love your channel. Peace.

Some interesting trivia: Peter Weller, who played Robocop/Murphy; Kurtwood Smith, who played Clarence, and Paul McCrane, Ray Wise and Jesse D. Goins, who were the other members of Clarence's gang, were all on the TV series 24, just not at the same time.

One of my favorite 80s movies. Fun facts, Peter Weller said that the Robocop suit was so bulky that he couldn't fit in the car with the suit on, so in all of the driving scenes in the film, he's not wearing the Robocop bottoms. Also in the scenes where he's seen from the waist up, he also not wearing the Robocop bottoms because the suit was hard to walk in.

"Okay Samuel L Jackson." Masterful as always. "Get an education!" PMSL Hey! Was Robocop slow walk away from the gas station explosion where that obnoxious troupe began? Just realized we had a ittle Twin Peaks reunion of Leland Palmer and Albert. RIP Miguel, you were the shit buddy. That would be blue screened since it was an 80's movie. the reaction to the toxic avenger was gold.

That nightclub scene, where Robocop slaps the gun out and a random guy catches it, that's actually Paul Verhoeven, the director of the film. That was his idea of a cameo.

18:50 wow… you called it about an hour early. Also, he recognised what was said - “dead or alive, you’re coming with me” 21:20 you left out THAT line? That’s sacrilege 😮 This is the first of the “holy trinity” of Paul Verhoeven’s cult classic films - Robocop, Total Recall and Starship Troopers. He has a style that you can see throughout all 3 of them - ott graphic violence and satire.

It's kind of funny that you said that he reminds you of the Terminator, because there's an SNES game (and probably others that I don't know about) called "Robocop vs. Terminator." If you're a gamer, I'm sure there's an emulator out there somewhere that has it.
