RoboCop 3 The Game Was Made Before the Movie

Robocop was one of, if not the first movie I can remember seeing in the theater as a child. Still one of my favorites, if not for the nostaliga, for going back and seeing Red Forman as Boddicker.

My brother & I watched Robocop religiously once my dad bought it on VHS. We loved nothing more than to randomly spout “I’d buy that for a dollar!” for no apparent reason.

It was strange how we used to have toys, games, and cartoons for things that were definitely not meant for kids like Terminator, Robocop, and Alien.

They knew that parents were letting us watch those movies anyway, or we were catching them on TV when we weren't supposed to. Heck, I think Terminator 2 was the very first R-rated movie I ever saw (or at least the earliest I remember), and I don't even think I was 10 yet.

To some extent, that sort of thing still happens today! A few years before Toys R Us shut down, there were articles about how parents were making a stink about the fact that "Breaking Bad" merchandise (action figures) were being sold in the Toys R Us stores. Granted, the toys were clearly meant for an older demographic, but just the fact that they were being sold in kiddie stores like that! It's less common these days for that kind of thing to happen, but it's out there.

What's kind of weird though is that I clearly remember being into Robocop, having the action figures and playing the NES game. Except....I hadn't seen the movie. I'm not really sure where exactly I knew of Robocop but he was just sort of omnipresent in the 80's and I think I liked transformers and other robot/mech media so I thought he looked cool. So while I think a lot of kids did see Robocop and were into him from the movies, I am sure there were lots of other kids like me who were inexplicably into him without seeing it

To be fair, the movie producers probably should've been more specific with the gyro cycle, instead of just giving a name that gives zero indication as to what the item actually is, but definitely implies what it isn't.

My parents were super-strict about what movies I could and couldn't watch when I was a kid, so while all my friends at primary school were quoting Arnie lines and talking about Rambo, I just sort of had to nod along and pick up what I could from what they were saying. At the age of 41, I must confess I've still never seen Robocop. I have at least seen the first two Terminator movies now, though!

Loving the Nintendo neon sign behind you, adds more to the 90s atmosphere. I was 7 coming on 8 when I heard of the 3rd RoboCop movie, but never seen it, my folks were protective of me.

I was maybe six years old when I first saw the original Robocop, admittedly on video while staying the night with my aunt. Definitely earlier than my mother would have liked - my aunt said never to tell her. Loved the movie though! :P

The most brutal thing in the Robocop franchise is the first boss on the first level of Robocop 3 on Game Gear. Go on, try it out. Don't use save states. You'll understand that every game you thought was hard, is a cakewalk by comparison.

Hold on a second....while Robocop and Robocop 2 are not for children the third film was. It was the most tame film in the trilogy and the absolute worst. The only redeeming quality in that entire film was the ED-209 getting hacked at the first 15-20 minutes. When he turns on a couple of OCP guards and says "You are in violation of the cities trespassing ordinance. You now have the right to eat hot lead suckers!" Edit- It appears the game was just as bad as the film.
