The moment when Murphy's faceplate is damaged and it zooms in to his very HUMAN eye, and the music swells and you know at that moment that there's a person under the armor... that's very powerful right there.

I know, when I was a little older I started to realize he is a little too relaxed and confident knowing that RoboCop's coming to arrest him. I got my wife to watch this with me, and she said he has got to know how to shut him down. And when he started shutting down I told her technically you were right.

Dude I don`t know who is the more psychopathic businessman in movie story, people say Patrick Bateman, but Dick Jones along with Louis Strack Jr from Darkman (1990) were for me the reincarnation of evil… while Pat Bateman was kind of a sick psychotic guy, of course he was a serial killer but inside the guy was suffering and had a bunch of insecurities, while Jones and Louis were really cold blooded psychopaths. Watch Darkman 1990 and tell me that guy isn`t a fuckin demon… lol

Despite Directive 4, Dick Jones forgot that Robocop can record his memory and his memory is admissible as evidence. I think Robocop suspected something was fishy about Directive 4, researched Dick Jones' psychological behavior, and played into it, hoping he'd spill the beans on himself.

In the scene that starts at 5:15, all those '"unnecessary" multiple layers of Titanium-laden armor they put on Robocop that they thought would never be needed because he would never face that type of firepower really saved his life. Imagine body armor so tough and heavy that it can withstand the firepower of an entire SWAT squadron for minutes on end.

Nowadays, it would be a documentary! Films like Total Recall, Alien, Aliens, they predicted the rise of powerful corporations. Like Amazon, Netflix, lots of games being online only. Back in the 1980s, at least there was some limit of effect on the average person's life. Sure they had a lot of power, but there were limits, laws, and regulations, to stop them being too powerful. Now they control virtually every aspect of your life. They know what you watch, play, read, eat etc. That's why all those classic 1980's sci fi films are so popular right now! Covid showed us the real state of the world!

@B-26354 10 ай бұрын
Private corporations already control police departments. I'm not saying that in an edgy way either but historically this has survived into the modern day. Rail Road Police in the US have cross state jurisdiction but are employees of the rail company, full arrest powers. Port Police are similar in that they're employees of the port company.

@@defaultusername123 You should see the thread on when Murphy gets shot: Lewis gets a lot of flak when Lewis, as a character, is a practical blue collar protagonist. SJLGG Robo2014 was all black plastic.. which means you can't see the detail, just a blob. If you were hiding from the original robcop, you would be loathing those footprints... unrelenting and no where to hide... Bring back proper costume design and effects. "Dead or alive you are coming with me" "F@#k you!" "Dead then!"

I actually find robocop to be the far more superior model than Ed 209. The main reason being that Ed 209 can not get down the stairs which makes it easier for criminals to get away! Haha!! They just have to use the friggin stairs! Whereas robocop can! So there’s no escaping robocop

Dick Jones murdered Robocop's father, Bob Morton. Bob Morton was sort of a bada** imo.. he stood up to Jones in the restroom scene when everyone else fled.

It's an OCP corporate swat-team. Different from the rank-and-file cops who were good cops that were suffering from under-funding and cuts when the city privatized the police-force and OCP took over running it for profit.

I love how before this Dick was chewing out Clarence for getting him involved and that Murphy’s recordings can be used as evidence. Dick then tells Murphy that he killed Bob. Granted, he thought he could kill Murphy but it gets used against him in the end.

"Hey wait a second, he's a cop for God's sake, Hitchcock you can't do this, we have orders to destroy it, oh shit, you maniacs, fire at Will!" Typical cops couldn't even follow simple fucking orders they all fired at Robocop aka Alex Murphy when Hitchcock specifically told them to fire at Will. In all fairness though, this was 26 years before After Earth and 29 years prior to the Oscars boycott and Fresh Prince of Bel Air was pretty good so I guess at that point no hard feeling for Will. Got to love Dick Jones, "Come in officer, you know I don't usually see anyone without an appointment but in your case I'll make an exception!" Bad ass!

The little finger tap at 0:58 is one of the most subtle and brilliant 4th wall breaks in movie history. Dick Jones is mocking the triumphant tone of Robocop’s entrance and the impending sense of justice felt by the audience at that point.

Yes, because if they let Clarence Bodiger out of jail, a cop killer, in less than 24hr, how long do you think it would take Dick Jones to get released? About 5 seconds?

Robocop discovers he is the murdered cop Alex Murphy. He goes after the guy responsible (Clarence) and learns Clarence is just a pawn for a guy that works for the company that created him. The company that gave him a new life is responsible for taking away his old life. The music that plays when he drives to his company's headquarters and steps out of the car to confront the crooked Dick Jones is powerful. All his snooping into his past ultimately led him back to OCP.

Also, Dick Jones was probably aware that a semi-autonomous, near invincible, robot could disrupt his criminal enterprise with Clarence and expose his corruption. Out of fear for that scenario he used his leverage to have Directive 4 installed. A robot like ED-209 would not have been a threat to Dick as it wouldn't be able to do its own detective work. Bob Morton's creation was a threat that could expose him, so both Bob and Robocop had to be destroyed.
@Colin_

Dont forget as well that at the beginning of the movie the OCP exec Bob said he moved prime candidates into particular Police districts for the RoboCop program. So they wanted Murphy (or others like him) dead so they could build RoboCop.

Put as many millions as you wish in CGI and digital effects in a modern movie, but only a very few will result in the same urgency, intensity and drama that both Paul Verhoeven and the mastery of Phil Tippet brought to this film. (kudos also to Craig Hayes for the ED-209) Robocop is best of the best in late 80's/early 90's action and scy-fy blockbusters!!!!

This is exactly how a politician would act when a good peace officer wanted to serve them to justice. A directive 4 and a hit on your life by very faithful peace officers. Kind of like the story of ex-Los Angeles police officer Christopher Jordan Dorner. Coincidence?
