Weller is legend. I love that he refused to do a generic Q&A and took the audience on journey to new lands (for them). His sense of humour is certainly not for everyone, but every interview with him is different. Gotta give him credit for that.

I loved the "White Tulip" episode of Fringe. I'm a big fan of Fringe, great show, but that episode was magic. Pure genius. Thank you Dr. Weller.

Is Peter Weller, trying to be a stand up commediene pacing the stage, looking for takers? I'm so used to him seeming grouchy & hesitant trying to avoid having to answer questions, and generally being very wooden. But here he's putting himself in the line of question fire, in some ways his personality suited the ROBOCOP film, with his minimalist...Clint Eastwood type aura and especially rugged gaunt looks (even in 1987) there have been rumours he refuses to talk about ROBOCOP these days, perhaps feeling he's "moved on" (although I heard the same thing about Michael Keaton, when asked about BAT MAN & Christopher Lee on Dracula) These celebrities seem to want to forget, the characters that made their name's & put them on the map, which could be an arrogant mistake, especially in the eyes of the loyal fans..

I love Weller's talks, but he was a bit contrived and pedantic here. If I go to a ComicCon, I want to hear him talk about Robocop and idm how deep he gets, but I don't want to be lectured to about renaissance art or Michelangelo.

Also is he knocking Marvel films? Whilst ROBOCOP ISNT a Super hero film, like IRON MAN it owes so much to the concept i.e- JUDGE DREDD, BAT MAN to some extent, the common denominator being epiphany moments that happen to ordinary people sometimes by accident, that enhance them & change them forever.

I like Peter Weller just fine. And I understand he’s tired of RoboCop. But he just seems so irritated. I know he’s wanting interesting and intelligent questions, but it’s kinda like he’s looking for it in not the most ideal place at a Con.

Probably the worst interview I have ever seen. At the same time, it's very important for people to watch things like this. It's a direct reflection of why Hollywood has fallen so far. This old man is so caught up in the politics that has made him wealthy he has driven himself to believe the idiocy of his peers.

You can take from ROBOCOP what ever you like, as in any film or song let's say. Everyone has a different...vision of it, it is a VERY complex Art house film- there are themes of Corporate corruption, opportunism, greed, de-humanisation, & lets face it social comments on the real life political mistakes, from the 80s (a ticking nuclear time bomb, that has now exploded)with that...new order of Govenment, begging the question, who is running society the Government (washing their hands of their duties to the public)or the Corporates? The ROBODOC documentry (funny title) I wonder what they can say, that hasnt been said already & of course it's only the original film and the 3rd one worth covering, despite my critisisms, we can assume Peter Weller is not a Republican or a cheer leader of them, unlike certain wooden "actors" previously mentioned.

But i still say, if you are coming to a comic convention or a sci-fi convention, AND YOU ARE FAMOUS FOR A SPECIFIC MOVIE, THEN YOU SHOULD ME MORE THAN HAPPY TO TALK ABOUT IT! OTHERWISE, DON’T COME! Most people who give up their hard earned money to pay for these now VERY EXPENSIVE CONVENTIONS, WANT TO TALK ABOUT THEIR FAVORITE MOVIES. ROBOCOP IS DEFINITELY ONE OF MY FAVORITES!

No, i think that’s just how he is. He is a professor of art history i believe, and that is just his style of teaching. I have had teachers like him before. I didn’t like them very much. But they did make me think and somewhat challenge the norms.

Wow! Peter Weller really seems to believe all of his bullshit. But so much of it is BULLSHIT! I really just think he likes to hear himself talk and thinks that he is smarter than everyone else in the room. And while he does know a lot about the history of things, it seems to me, that he knows next to nothing about being kind to his fans. Especially the ones who ask him about Robocop. And I get these tired about talking about it however, there are a lot of fans who still like to talk about it. And if he no longer wants to talk about it, then he should stop coming to conventions where they want to talk about RoboCop, and instead go in front of college audiences and talk about history and whatever else he wants to talk about. Because let’s face it, the primary reason that he is famous in the science fiction community is because he was the lead in the movie Robocop. And I don’t care what he says about resurrection, Robocop was also about the amazing visual effects with which out the movie would not have done nearly as well. Because Rob Botín created a suit based on sorayama’s sexy robot, which design wise was simply fantastic! Except, maybe, for the shock absorbers behind his ankles, which were pretty unnecessary design-wise. They always reminded me of the hydraulics on C-3PO‘s arms, which were also pretty unnecessary. but other than that was the armored suit was brilliantly designed.

If you don't care about resurrection, then you don't care about the movie. So as Morton would say, get lost.
@rednasseel4113

No disrespect to Mr. Weller, but the ROBOCOP SUIT is the star of that movie. WITHOUT THAT SUIT, THE MOVIE IS LIKE ANY OTHER SUPERHERO MOVIE. AND LET’S FACE IT, ANY OTHER ACTOR OUT THERE COULD HAVE WORN THAT SUIT AND MADE THAT MOVIE A SUCCESS. IT WASN’T PETER WELLER’S PERFORMANCE ALONE. MICHAEL KEATON COULD HAVE PLAYED ROBOCOP. TOM CRUISE, TED DANSON, HUGH JACKMAN, CHRIS PRATT, CHRIS EVANS, CHRISTOPHER REEVE, HENRY CAVILL, MARC SINGER, CLINT EASTWOOD, TOM SELLECK, DOLPH LUNDGREN, AND SO MANY OTHER GREAT ACTORS WOULD HAVE DONE VERY WELL PLAYING ALEX MURPHY…. BUT THAT ROBOCOP SUIT CREATED BY ROB BOTIN… WAS THE MOVIE. WITHOUT THAT SUIT, THAT SCRIPT, AND THAT THEME SONG, THERE IS NO ROBOCOP MOVIE.
@SonateSonate
@SonateSonate Жыл бұрын
You're so wrong lol. Every single actor that came after Weller failed to incarnate a convincing Murphy/RoboCop. He and his choregrapher Moni Yakim created the Robo walk with that impracticable suit that was designed for him, nobody else could've pulled this off.

This is like saying ANYONE could have played the Frankenstein Monster. It was the makeup that was the “star”. Bullshit. In terms of old school horror no one enveloped the portrayal of the misunderstood monster better than Boris Karloff. The role was as much the portrayal as it was the image. Same with Robo. Yes visually the suit is very appealing but it’s what the actor does in the suit and his role in the story that plays as much a part in the films success than the suit. Weller has said countless times that the reason this film lives on is because of the explored themes of crucifixion and resurrection. It’s not just about the action involving a crime fighting robot. The film is a tragedy as much as it is sci-fi action adventure.
