One week into ownership, the Q Revo is truly amazing. Are there more expensive models that might be a little better? Probably, but the Q Revo can hold it's own at a fraction of the price. We bought direct from Roborock for 680-10% military discount, total cost $612. Much to our surprise it successfully avoided a folded blanket we forgot to pick up, so while it's obstacle avoidance might not match models costing twice the price, it's fine if you pick up cords and such. On the plus side, it does not touch, bump, or markup walls or furniture. We even have Christmas decorations out that it successfully avoids. None of our previous Roombas or Deebots could do that. Q Revo for the win for us.

I just wanted to add a short note on the Q Revo and mopping. My wife had accidentally dropped some sort of lipstick on to the floor near the sink and it really dug into the wood floor after a couple of days. I sent the Q Revo in standard mode to clean it up and it could not clean it all up so I set it to Max and after two passes it was able to remove it. I know that's not the typical type of stain but very impressed with it's capabilities.

Jamie, thanks for taking the time to create this Q Revo video. I know you had limited time to bring it out but it really helped me to make my decision between the Q Revo and the S7 Max Plus. I will purchase this one because it seems to do the majority of the things that I need to have done and yes there are limitations on the object avoidance but since the S7 Max Plus would be using the same object avoidance I don't think it would make that big of a difference between the two. If I were comparing it against the S7 Maxv Plus or the S8 on object avoidance then it would make the Q Revo look really bad. But considering the differences in pricing and the discount coupon it's a no-brainer to get the Q Revo. I am also hoping that firmware upgrades will improve the object avoidance over time. Also, I look forward to your comparison between the Q Revo and the S7 Max Plus, but regardless I am going to get the Q Revo. Thanks again

OK, the initial results are IN! Q Revo so far has NO trouble at all picking up husky hair from my 5+ yr old husky mix and now 5 mo old siberian husky puppy (who is now also shedding). I have to hand it to them for finally catching onto the better design idea from irobot of having a separate direct route from robot dust bin to dock dust collection bag. In watching it I'm not super enthused over the mopping action, as it will skip from carpet to floor and NOT back up to mop the part it just jumped over. It does appear to basically mop at least as well as the s7 vmax ultra and I actually turned off the one direction floor mopping as it didnt seem to want to do as well for whatever reason - i do have some floor rugs about so the dogs don't have to slide around the entire house. There is no wall to wall rug anywhere. We had guests for a few days that brought sand from the beach into the guest room which wasnt cleaned while they were here for 4 days and i set the q revo to clean x2 on both the guest bathroom and bedrooms and it did a terrific job! I really also like the easier empty/clean for the dirty water tank and the refill for the clean tank. Much simpler setup. I did get the white Q Revo, which at first I thought would just get super dirty looking but turns out it actually looks great! I also LOVE that the base water/debris catcher pulls right out to clean - SOOOOO much simpler and faster than the s7 vmax's pita water filter cleaning. Definite improvement over the s7vmax ultra in my opinion for anybody with shedding dogs! The only gripe so far is i have to remove the Revo from the dock to check it's internal dust bin (not the dock bin) whereas the s7 you could check it while docked, however i find it unnecessary to even do so at this point. It just works like it's supposed to! Yay! Its by far a better bin emptying setup. Now if that darn irobot full bag sensor patent would expire so i could be notified when to replace the dock bag, things would really be great. Ah, one other note - to my relief Q Revo so far has NOT unraveled the edges of an old persian rug we have, I was a bit hesitant about trying a robot with better suction because of that one. So - anybody want a used s7vmax ultra?! lol

I have an S5 Max and an Australian Shepherd who sheds a lot! I have to manually pause the vac and empty the dust bin after every room, which is a huge pain! I'm a little confused about your having to remove the Revo from the dock to check its bin. I thought the Revo would automatically empty its bin as needed. Does it not? Woukd I still have to empty it after every room like I've been doing with my S 5 Max? Thanks!
@cateberhart7299 Жыл бұрын
@@Jim_in_AR I updated my review - it was the internal to robot bin i was talking about - but it empties so well i dont even bother checking it now. It just works! The s7vmax clogged a LOT in comparison and was a pain to have to upend the whole dock as well as the robot to clear it out and replace the dust bag before it would operate properly again. I haven't touched the s7 since i got the Q Revo which i have run 4 jobs every day. I do have to empty the water filter every other day because the little holes clog with hair in the back section of the filter but its 100% easier to clean the s7vmax. I also empty & refill the water bins every evening. And as an aside I use bissell carpet cleaner to add to the clean water tank so its not just plain water mopping my floors. Used it in the s7vmax as well and never had a problem. Way cheaper to just go to local store to purchase the cleaner.

Great review. After closely looking at the first generation all-in-one robots last year I suspected waiting a while for manufacturers to iron out issues and release newer generations of robots may be a good idea. The Roborock Q Revo just confirmed the notion for me. It's very exciting to see where robot cleaner technology will go in the future. Small object avoidance is a problem for 99% of robots on the market, so it is not that the Q Revo is bad, it just doesnt have the advanced camera/3D scanner that the S7 and S8 have, which is mainly the reason why the Q Revo is MUCH cheaper in comparison. And honestly it wouldnt be a big deal except for the poop, you definitely dont want your robot to drive over poop and turn your home into a smelly version of peanut butter & jelly sandwich. The S7 and S8 still get entangled in cables and anything it can drive over, so you still have to prepare your home slightly for a cleaning session. The Q Revo probably wont get much better, because it doesnt have the hardware necessary, so any attempts to increase object avoidance would result in "false alarm" avoiding, meaning the robot would start dodging nonexistent obstacles. But I believe Roborock will eventually switch to dual rotating pads on their flagship models, and either the S9 or S10 will have both the best sensors/cameras and the rotating mops, because it is simply better and you dont want wealthy people prefering 40% cheaper Q Revo over S8 ultra just because the cheaper one can mop 10x better (personally I would choose Q Revo over S8/S7 even if I didnt care about the price, good mopping is just very important in modern homes, especially in USA where people walk inside with outside shoes on).

Okay I ran my own object avoidance test with the Q Revo and this is what I found out. If you turn on the "less collision mode" it will avoid objects like shoes and stuffed animals pretty well with minor taps. It will run over socks and wires so make sure you clean up before you vacuum. Now, if you turn that setting off it will just run over almost anything except the really big objects. With the setting on, it will still get very close to the edges when it vacuums so I'm going to keep it on for now and keep an eye on the edge cleaning. Let's see what happens in the future with updates.
@jamie.andrews Жыл бұрын
First off thanks for continuing to share your experience with me! I wish more people did. I had less collision mode turned on for the obstacle avoidance test on this video. One thing to keep on mind is if the object is taller than the deck lid then lidar can pick it up and avoid it. It drives me crazy when I see other KZbin channels testing obstacle avoidance with objects that can be see by the lidar. The object avoidance systems are designed to pickup items in the robots blind spot which is below the deck lid. I only use one of those in my test which is the blue cup which I think is important to avoid, but even robots without object avoidance can avoid the cup be cause lidar can see it as an object. It will get super close, but less collision mode means it will dramatically slow down and avoid things like chair legs in in my case the cup. On a side note I took my Q Revo off the dock and in the app I told it to go back to the dock to charge and it did a quick test to see where it was and then docked without issue. Did I do it the same way you did it? Do you have map saving turned on is the setting?
@DJ-HGLegacy Жыл бұрын
@@jamie.andrews Jamie thanks for the information on the lidar and how it works with object avoidance. I will have to test your theory out on the speed of vacuuming when using the collision mode on and off and see the difference in time. As for pulling the roborock off the dock and using the app to try to put it back on the dock, you did it correctly. I'm glad it worked for you and I will have to run additional tests and see if it continues with mine.
@electricme100 Жыл бұрын
Question: will the object avoidance be improving with future app updates, or is that something that is a strictly hardware issue where it would be best to wait for the next iteration to see how it does? Also, how does it do weaving through chair legs? Does it get stuck? Does it bump into the chair legs? I'm concerned about my wooden chair legs or the base of my wood table getting damaged. Is there any possibility that water or detergent will get sprayed on anything or is it all directed below? These are my concerns. Other than that, the Q Revo looks like the best thing on the market for me. I appreciate your reviews! And I'm also particularly grateful for your inclusion of the replacement parts costs. That can get pricey fast and is something that should be considered prior to purchasing any product. So, thanks!!

An excellent review. I would agree with you that the obstacle avoidance is an important component where the new variations and designs of current robot vacuums. I have two three four roombas and I maintain them every week and I consider the avoidance of cards, small objects, not getting stuck under chairs and the kick space of kitchens to be extremely important to the longevity of the robot and the items that may be and should be avoided on the floor such as shoelaces and tassels on rugs. Over the course of weeks and months avoidance prevents damage that accumulates and can be very expensive. I personally will wait for software upgrades because robots should have excellent object avoidance and I should say small object avoidance,

Thanks! Object avoidance needs to progress much more to really have me say you don't need to pickup before you send these out. It always bumps into my husband and gets stuck under a recliner. I usually close my kids bedroom doors because it has no object avoidance or lidar and I'm not that brave. @@jamie.andrews I LOVE it! I hope it has longevity on its side, I take very good care of my robots so I'm hopeful. Obstacle avoidance is so far so good for our needs with realistic expectations. It's gotten stuck once on a frayed dog rope and it freed itself, pretty cool to watch. Much quieter and faster than my old i3 + 240. I don't notice a difference in the cleaning efficiency of my Q Revo vs. Roomba other than now my floors are always mopped, the vacuum lines are nicer and no rooms get missed in less than half the time. 1109 sq ft in 5 hours 42 min including one recharge, 40% battery left after the cleaning was complete. I've read some mixed reviews regarding the Roborock OMO cleaner- some people reported it causing mold. Do you have thoughts on cleaner vs just water? So far I'm just going with water but I also wonder if other brands can be used- other than voiding the warranty I wonder why can't Bissell Crosswave solution which is made for a robot cleaner be used in Roborock, or the Roomba solution. Seems like they should all be interchangeable other than the brands wanting to keep the consumables profits. Would love to see a review of different robot solutions in different robot mops. @@jamie.andrews I agree, but I must say that the object recognition does help if you have lots of pets around - like I do. I have had mishaps from my Ecovacs at home, but generally it is pretty good. Most of the issues is when my dogs play and rip their blankets and those threads get gobbled up by the vac. Same with their chairs - yes they have two of their own in my lounge lol - and they have ripped the one and drop pieces of foam on the floor. That has managed to stop the roller and let the robot error out. In my flat I run a J7+ and that is still the best with object detection, although sometime a little too careful. Generally, I will trust it in any mess as it has never got tangled or hit something it should not. It used to run in my main house and it just always worked.

Thanks Jamie, nice review. Couple of questions, what is the real life run time in vacuum and mop mode? How often does it need to return to base to change water? And have you any experience of it with door thresholds at 2cm high?
@jamie.andrews Жыл бұрын
Roborock claims 180 minutes of run time, but if it gets below a certain percent it will go back to recharge and the resume the cleaning. You can customize in the app how often it goes back to the dock to have the mopping pads washed and robot refilled. 10 - 25 minutes is your setting range. The robots are rated for roughly 20mm which is right there at 2cm. It might be a close call. This is a fairly common height in the industry so what it really comes down to is how well the robot navigates and tries to attempt to cross a threshold. Roborock would be my choice here.

Thank for the great review Jamie! In your experience so far, how long does it take the Q revo to saturate the mopping pads after engaging them? Does it do anything to pre wet them? I’m thinking of situations where there is either a small amount of floor to be mopped surrounded by carpet or the area right around the dock.
@jamie.andrews Жыл бұрын
They do not need to be prewet since the dock prewets the mopping pads each time before a mopping job. You can then control the amount of water that gets dripped on the pads while mopping through the app. Finally you can set it from 10 minutes to 25 minutes for it to go back to the dock for a rewash.

Do you have to go to the app and fiddle to the right menu to find it? 2. about the privacy issue - does the S8 Ultra have an RGB cam? I'm considering of buying this model because of the privacy issue even thought the obsticale detection is much worse than the S8 Series.

1. If you hold the Dock button for at least 3 seconds it will go in to Spot Cleaning mode. So technically there is a button that does do this. 2. @@jamie.andrews I definitely think a comparison between these two is worth it. Since I live in Ireland, I'm not sure if we'll get a launch discount. If we don't, the retail price of 899 dollars is quite close to the L10s Ultra, and since the L10s Ultra seems to be on permanent "sale" on amazon, the final cost wound't be far off. As pointed out on your head to head video on the L10s Ultra, S7 MaxV Ultra (which I believe performs just as good as the s8 Pro Ultra), and DEEBOT X1 OMNI, the L10s seems to punch way above it's weight class. In my mind, the Q Revo is placed to compete and undercut the L10s Ultra. Also, I don't think the Q Revo would cannibalize the sales of the s8, since people that want the top of the line will go for the s8 regardless, even thought the L10s is better value.

Any theory as to why the hard floor vacuuming performance falls short of the S7 MaxV? Maybe because it lacks the “floating brush housing” that allows the S7 to get closer to the floor?
@jamie.andrews Жыл бұрын
It does not completely lack the floating brush as it does have one that floats, however on the S7 the roller deck free floats where as the Q Revo is hinged on the front side so only the rear floats down. I would point my finger at this being the difference, however I am seeing similar results as the Q Revo from the S7 Max Ultra which has the same floating deck design as the S7 MaxV. Airflow has a lot to do with my tile test. Another thing to note is if you look at the recent test comparing the S7 MaxV to the S8 Pro the S7 MaxV does great with getting the cat litter out of the grout whereas the S8 Pro and the Q Revo really struggled.

Hallo - Great video , very informative with some great comparisons. Few questions that I hope you can answer, because I cant seem to find it.. :( Is it possible to setup 2 houses in the app ? Aka i have a cottage that i would love to bring this to once in a while? is that doable? without having to do a full scan of the house each time :) Another thing, from your expirience how long does it take to clean an entire house? I know that obviously depends on the size, complexity etc. But what is your experience ? My cottage is like 100m2 ish of hard floors , no carpets and a not at all complex, is that like 2 hours? or 1 hour? Give or take... I know this is all rough estimates, but i would still love to know. Since the battery life does not really say much :) And the cleaning is just on default stuff.
@jamie.andrews Жыл бұрын
The only way I can think that 2 houses may work is if they have the same wireless access point with the same passwords and SSID set otherwise that is one big problem. You could treat the second location like a different floor in a single house. I'm not sure how well any of this would work though. On average in my home it cleans about 1 square foot per minute. There are so many variables that go into this so that is really all I can say as even that varies in my house. The less clutter the faster it can clean. It does have recharge and resume with fast charging too. Thanks for the support,

Hey Jamie, I did find a bug with the Q Revo and not sure if you've had it happen on yours. If I lift the robot out of its charging station and place it somewhere else to clean around it, when I go to my app and tell it to dock it will try to create a new map. I then have to stop what it's trying to do through the app and go back to the robot and hit the home button from there. Also, I had it go into a no-go zone which it's not supposed to be able to do and then send an alert that it was in a no-go zone and needed to be placed outside of that area. When I did, I could not get it to resume the cleaning and eventually it tried to create a new map. Once again I had to stop that process and click the home button on the robot itself to get it to go home. One of the times I had to go into the map section and delete a map that had been created. Hopefully all of this will get fixed in a firmware upgrade.
@jamie.andrews Жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that. When you move it out of the dock to clean somewhere, how are you getting the robot to start cleaning? I assume once it stops cleaning you then press the dock button and choose to clean the mops or charge when going back? I will try and recreate and report it to Roborock if it is the case for me. I have had other robots like Roborock accidentally go into no-go zones. It should not happen every time so if you could let me know if that was a one off or common occurrence Thanks for sharing!

Hi Jamie, how is the spinning mopping compared to the vibrating mopping? Is there a clear winner? Due to the shape of the mop heads, which covers more ground? The circle shape also leaves a small gap in the middle. I have a Narwal and I feel its shape covers more ground.
@jamie.andrews Жыл бұрын
The pad on the S7 and S8 series covers more ground, but I am not sure how much it matters because the robots overlap each path. Where it might matter more is near the walls and chair legs. The Q Revo will not get as close, but to be fair the S7 and S8 don't reach the edge so you still need to clean your floors with something else regardless. I use a Dyad Pro for this.

Jamie, not sure if you have noticed but even when I set the "Less Collision Mode" on the robot, it still gets super close to the edges without touching them. When I look at the robot go throughout my house I almost feel like it's going to scrape the walls but it doesn't. Also, I have also noticed that the object avoidance is great on large objects and doesn't touch them very often. I can only imagine what the next update will bring.
@jamie.andrews Жыл бұрын
So less collision mode is only for objects like chair legs that are in it's forward path. Keep in mind if an object on the floor is taller than the robot it can be seen by the lidar mounted on top and will be avoided just like a chair leg would. The object avoidance only assists with objects that can't be detetected by lidar which is anything lower than the height of the deck lid. As far as cruising next the the wall there is a wall sensor on the right side that keeps the robot off of the wall and baseboards. Hope this helps!

@DJ-HGLegacy Жыл бұрын
In regards to your first question you can either use one of the pre made routines or just set it up on the scheduler to get this done.
@jamie.andrews Жыл бұрын
Yes. As DJ stated you can do this in a scheduled cleaning or you just select vaccum only on the app and the mop only in the app the second time. In vaccum only mode you can leave the mop pads attached, the will stay lifted and dry. If my floors are real dirty I do this exact same thing. I am a fan of detergent injection for the following reasons and so far the Dreame L10s is the only one to have this option. 1. The end user no longer has to deal with measuring and calculating the dilution ratio of detergent to water. . 2. I now can add hot water to the clean water tank each time I start a mopping job. While you can do this on the Q Revo you would likely be faced with pouring out left over room temperature water with cleaning solution in it wasting good cleaning solution. These may not matter especially if you don't care about hot water or cleaning solution. The new Ecovacs T20 has hot water mop washing which takes care of one of those problems, but not the measuring of the dilation ratio.

Hey there! I live in an old building in Germany and my house has raised doorthreshold about 2cm high at max. Do you have any experience how they handle small Doorswells like mine? Thank you very much!
@jamie.andrews Жыл бұрын
2cm it usually right at the limit for most robot vacuums. There are many factors to determine if it can clear it including the shape of the threshold.

Does the robot detect if it runs out of water and returns for a refill?
@jamie.andrews Жыл бұрын
No, but I ran it for 25 minutes with the water output set to high and still had water coming out of the holes. 25 minutes is the max time before it will return to the dock.

Hey Jamie, I am not going to take the time to buy distilled water to add to my Q Revo since I mop quite a bit and will continue using tap water so I would like to know if you have descaled a Roborock Robot before and what did you use?
@jamie.andrews Жыл бұрын
I don't live in an area that has this problem thank goodness. I am not really sure how to answer that. I suggest asking the question on the Reddit for Roborock.
@DJ-HGLegacy Жыл бұрын
@@jamie.andrews I got a response from Roborock support to use citric acid to descale the robot when there is mold. I also asked them how to descale it when your lines are clogged. Let's see if the response is any different.
@DJ-HGLegacy Жыл бұрын
Roborock support just responded back to my follow up question and told me that the citric acid can only be used for the mold inside of the water containers but not to use it to clear out any of the water lines inside of the robot or the dock. So they don't have a recommendation on how to descale the robot or the dock. Using citric acid in either one of those areas could cause damage to the robot or the dock.

@@DJ-HGLegacy Do you think it will be a big enough issue in say 5 years of use?
@DJ-HGLegacy Жыл бұрын
@@jamie.andrews The way I view it, my Keurig coffee maker has to be descaled every couple of months otherwise the water flow diminishes considerably. Since I am using the same water for the robot, I would assume sooner or later I am going to have the same problem with the robot. It could happen within the year unless there is something different about the way the water flows through the dock and into the robot.

Is the S7 Max Ultra significally worse especially for tile joints than the q revo? I consider to buy the S7 Max Ultra, because the Q Revo is not available in germany or should i wait till it is?
@jamie.andrews Жыл бұрын
In my testing the S7 MaxV is a bit better at pickup in tile joints. Take a look here : kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGKumq2CfKZ4nq8

Great review, another robot that looks really interesting is the T20 from Ecovacs which should be out soon, with all these new robots coming out, I really wonder what, if anything Irobot will come out with. They may have been one of the first companies to introduce Robot vacuums but recently they have really fallen behind, companies like Roborock, Dreametech and Ecovacs have gotten so far ahead of them. Last I checked the Roomba J7 Combo was selling for $1099, no spinning or vibrating mop and it doesn't clean the mop pad at all, I don't know if they think that people will buy it just because of the name, maybe some will but compared to what else is out there, that is a total rip off. I actually sold my Roomba J7 Plus to a friend of mine and I have not missed it at all.

I have the T20 and I am very excited to review it. That will be out soon. Irobot is going the way of Neato very fast. Irobot is all about name recognition and marketing, but other companies that your stated are outpacing them.

I do love the idea of hot water for the mopping but considering the price of The Q Revo with the discount coupon and buying a T20 at full price, I'll stick with the Q Revo for now until something more revolutionary than hot water comes along. Maybe that's why the T20 only has to go 180 RPM and the QRevo has to go 200 RPM for the spinning mopping pads to clean. I would be curious to see if the hot water and lower RPMs is better or equal to the Q Revo with 200 RPM. Jamie maybe that's a test for the future.

@@jamie.andrews I wonder if Neato Robotics will ever come out with anything new, they have also fallen behind, they were the first ones to develop a Lidar robot, but they haven't had anything new in years. Irobot can market all they want but they have fallen behind in several areas. They are still using Vslam which is not as good as Lidar for several reasons, the batteries also don't last as long and their combo mop and vacuum robot is far behind what the other companies offer. I honestly cannot think of a single reason to recommend a Roomba over a Roborock, Ecovacs or Dreametech.

@@DJ-HGLegacy I have the T20 and will be testing this out for sure. Remember the T20 does not have an on board water tank, but that hot water system is a decent alternative to detergent injection once I can fill the water tank full with room temp water and cleaning solution and still have hot water. I am pretty excited about the T20. We shall see.

@@MrBlueCreeper Yes, the more I work with the robots without removable plates the more I don't like it. I can remove the mopping plate on the S7 and it will always just vacuum by default. If I want to mop just slide the plate on.

@@jamie.andrews yeah, this is one big reason why I prefer the S7 MaxV more than the S8 Pro Ultra. The other big reason is the downgraded Obstacle Avoidance.
