Definitely. Imagine how they’d have gone with pincers and a scoop. There’s a lot of power in those feet, and they could probably have pushed just about anything.

Stinger is the robot that I'm fairly sure Gabriel has over his mantelpiece. Gods, you don't really realise what a punch that thing had until you watch it in action, what a machine, and what driving skill was necessary to make it work. Thank you so much for reminding me why I loved Series 4.

Gregory Atkin for all its success stinger was a bit of a one series wonder sadly. when they got to series 5 it seemed they had terminal trouble with one wheel failing and stinger resorting to spinning on the spot. They never seemed to be able to cure that so all stinger battles were the same, ended in killalot claws
@gregoryatkin15098 жыл бұрын
I think Series 4 had a nice mix of the fact that people had got weapons power under control and the armour wasn't quite good enough with the 80kg weight limit so that real damage could be done. Stinger, Hypno-Disc, Dominator 2 and especially Pussycat all had great runs this series simply because their weapons could do a huge amount of damage. I think you're absolutely right, though, don't get me wrong.

Today's Robot Wars has Gabriel, Saint and Nuts but Stinger was easily the pioneer of the axlebot design.

Stinger debuted in the same year as Weeliwako and Flip Flop Fly, but to be fair, the sucess of Stinger was probably the biggest influence of axlebots thereafter
@PokeGuy6 Жыл бұрын
@@oliverprice114 That is true, Flip Flop Fly tho was both boring and pathetic. Stinger of course made it to the Grand Final in Series 4 and was a regular contender. Wheelasourus only did Series 2 and 4 but Peter Gibson was a great roboteer and he gave us a laugh or two. I agree with you tho that Stinger is the biggest influence of the axlebot design, solid construction despite just being two wheels on a mace chassis and it had good top speed and gave us so many laughs with it's erratic driving XD

I still think Stinger's design looked like "mechanized innuendo", although they'd figured to nail their competition with that swinging weapon.
@kinagrill3 жыл бұрын
yeah it's all about enemies attacking and Stinger going full spin or doing a full reverse if someone's bot tries to flip at it, etc. cuz that weapon is not about precision. it's about wide arc attacking.

Love it how Stinger just randomly jumps in background at 14:46. Seriously, one of the funniest robots to watch.
@bami23 жыл бұрын
It wasn't a random jump, they "self-righted" (as much as a invertible twackbot can self-right). If you look at the previous shot at 14:29 you can see that the little support bars are on the top side, this prevents them from swinging the arm overhead. By doing that jump they got the little support bars back on the bottom so the arm could again move freely.

I think that the colours on Stinger's tail gives them the hint on when it's right-side up or upside-down. Invertible robots drive the opposite ways if they're upside down so that's what had me thinking yellow means right-side up and red means upside-down. Awesome way of telling which way up Stinger is.

Well that second heat was kind of entertaining. Bulldog Breed flipping Spikasaurus and Stinger non-stop and they just kept on driving around as if nothing had happened. Nobody broke down, nobody did much damage to anybody else. Okay, so Spikasaurus was probably the weakest, just, but I did like the ingenuity of its roly-poly self-righting balance. JP gets more obnoxious every time I listen to him. Exulting about how "we" are going to smash your robot up. Bulldog Breed vs Stinger looks like an exercise in futility. Bulldog keeps flipping Stinger which has absolutely no effect on it, Stinger keeps racing around whacking the floor and bouncing off Bulldog Breed... eventually Bulldog Breed lost its CO2 supply (as Bigger Brother did in the previous heat) so Stinger wins by default.

@ryanodonovan9497 Жыл бұрын
@@johndasalty111 What are you talking about? The House Robots never did anything to Spikasaurus. Hell, Dead Metal and Shunt respectively helped it each time it got stuck on the side wall when Refbot should've done that! The closest Spikasaurus came to being illegally attacked was on two occasions when Shunt protruded out of his CPZ unnecessarily, but he barely even touched it.
@ryanodonovan9497 Жыл бұрын
They all got a good amount of hits on each other with their weaponry; that certainly made it close to call. But I agree with Spikasaurus being eliminated, based on the fact it suffered the most damage - its self-righting bars got bent, resulting in them failing at the end when it was stuck on its back. It only got back over because of a last flip from Bulldog Breed.

16:46 for the life of me I cannot work out how stinger got through to the second round. It didn’t do anything. Spikeasaurus wasn’t great but it was aggressive and launched as many attacks as stinger did. Stinger winning a judges decision is like wearing barbecue sauce in a lion’s den, bonkers. They have no style, no skill and the only reason they went as far as they did was because the pit wasn’t open! Notice how mace 2 beat them and how in extreme they usually got knocked into the pit! Panic attack and spikeasaurus were both done dirty by the fact the pit couldn’t be opened till extreme changed it. I like the team on stinger but the robot, hate it.
