As someone who grew up on halo obsessed with the series, from Halo CE a year after it came out, and has had to watch it slowly go downhill... This shit warms my heart a little, dont know many women who are into that series. I feel the same way about Gamora from the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies. One day it occured to me that Starlord and Gamora are essentially a typical masculine/feminine foil... But juxtaposed, because, to be perfectly blunt, Starlord is the more feminine one of the two. Honestly, I dont mind it, mostly because neither character is some pandering f@#$ing stereotype peddling social justice... They just... ARE. And their behavior makes 110% sense in the context of the universe. Abducted and raised by pirates after watching his mom succumb to cancer, its not any wonder that starlord is a bit sensitive and socially needy, and developed a people pleaser personality. By contrast, Gamora was forced to fight her own sister all through youth, and has never known a normal social connection. The result is stoicism to a fault. What I love is that neither character is particularly presented as weak, just strong in different ways. Gamora has some ridiculous alien strength, able to wield spacecraft weaponry like a personal firearm. But Starlord is willing to space himself to save her, I wouldnt really call him weak either, you know? And most importantly, neither are skme SJW's self insert fantasy. Theyre just realistic people. What I love is they both sort of highlight the very real benefits and drawbacks of their respective personalities. Starlord is caring, but a bit naive. Gamora is stoic, but that stoicism makes her automatically reject ANY personal connection. And its really subtle too, her entire arc is basically slowy overcoming this idea that she needs to be enemies with the entire universe. And they both kinda rub off on each other, moderating each other's worst facets. By the second movie, Gamora's a little more relaxed and honest with Starlord. She talks him into reconnecting with his father... Then warns him when something feels off, something she can see because of her messed up family, and he cant. Sometimes I think the juxtaposition helps as well, like, I genuinely dont think diehard feminists understand WHY some guys are like, ultrastoic... Otherwise they wouldnt be calling it "toxic" masculinity. I think Gamora's character serves an important role in kinda showing off that psyche, where it can come from, what its downsides are, to people who see gender first, people second. Like, if thats what it takes to get a point across, then I'm all for it. This is what real characters look like. And honestly, the f@#$ing pandering in hollywood needs to stop. Im bi, and cant stand the bogus LGBT "representation", most of it just spreads the literally gayest stereotypes, and it really does give people the weirdest ideas about what LGBTs look like. I used to work in the USAF as a jet engine mechanic, and like, I never really advertised myself as bi, but I didnt hide it either. I just didnt really talk about it until it seemed relevant to the conversation. So I had coworkers who knew me for years, if I mentioned it for the first time, would go "Huh, never knew that about you, I never woulda guessed". And if I asked them why, without fail, just "I dunno, you just never seemed like it". I think the reason is because I really curbed any affiliation with SJWs. Its actually funny to me seeing these hollywood guys using the term Gatekeeped so much. Wanna talk gatekeeping? I lost most of my liberal ideals after about the 27th time of having my own sexuality gatekeeped by so-called gay allies, or worse, other LGBTs, with the kind of sh@t hot takes you'd expect out of literal neo-n@zis, just because I mildly disagreed that moral outrage at every percieved slight maybe isnt the most convincing approach, lol. And I think whats changed even more since then, I now have kind of a hall of heroes that live in my brain rent free I try to model my own psychology off of out of admiration. For example, Willem Arondeus. He bombed a records building in WW2, destroying 800,000 identification cards that were being used by the Gestapo to track down and round up jews. When the Gestapo tracked him down, they executed him. His last words were "Tell the people that homosexuals are not, by definition, weak." Literally, stereotypes evaporate if you just dont f@#$ing act like one. There's a lot of benefits to be had in masculine traits, and the more I've tried to accept them and exemplify them myself, the happier I've been in recent years (I genuinely think I was suppressing that side of me for a long time after being raised with some weird ideals, and that it was making me depressed without realizing it). Anyway, just because someone's gay doesnt mean they HAVE to act like a chick. And its weird to me that modern hollywood seems to equate homosexuality with effeminate behaviors. Literally, taika's acting like it as a joke in that one clip. I miss characters that just sh@t the f@ck up and get a job done. Even the so-called strong female leads tend to just be whiny political mouthpieces, instead of genuine survivors and bad@$$es They cant even help but ruin past characters like that. Like, the writers for the Halo show were so disenfranchised with the characters in the existing IP, they couldnt help but write an alternate universe just to avoid writing the actual Master Chief. What a joke. I dont understand how anybody can call themselves a writer if they cant even write their way out of a wet paper bag, let alone write a realistic character they dont personally agree with or feel like. It literally screams that the writers being hired anymore are more narcissicists than empaths, which is just NOT what you want in a writer.

Seems super obvious, but just can't quite figure it out. But anyway, a lot of 80's movies had cold war propaganda and the American/white savior trope, foreigners were evil, women were usually undeveloped prizes for our hero, and the token minority died first. And as ridiculous as it is, if being gay is now a political narrative, being straight is also political, so all those hetero romances from those 80's movies were "being shoved down our throats". And in the 80's they quite literally were shoved into movies that didn't need them, because the studios thought having a "romantic" relationship in the movie would bring in female viewers, so they tacked them in unnecessarily, which is why so many of the women were undeveloped.

This might be hidden in the comments, but one modern TV show that nails how diversity SHOULD be represented in Hollywood is the show Brooklyn 99. The main characters of the show are 2 white men (one of them being jewish), 2 Hispanic women (one of them being bi), 2 black guys (one of them being gay), and another white woman (who is also jewish). However, the show mainly focuses on these characters PERSONALITIES rather than their race/sexual orientation/gender. For example, with both of the Hispanic women, they are completely different from one another. One of them is a book nerd and the other one is mean mugging badass. What I like about this show is that ANYBODY could have been these characters. Any diversity can play a book nerd or a mean mugging badass. However, they went with two Hispanic women playing these parts because these actresses are the best actresses who nailed their roles. There are really amazing actors in various different races/gender/sexual orientation. Hollywood NEEDS to hire them because of their amazing acting talent and NOT because of their creed. That alone is what I consider ignorant

I could write a thesis about the unending issues, but what stands out is how just like there was no real multiverse or madness in MoM there were no gods or butchering of said gods. The omnipotence city basically serves the same function as the Illuminati yet there were more problems with it and the only god butchering we actually see is the opening scene and by the end of it Gorr’s character is totally ruined and they make him realise his humanity in the most unoriginal and easiest way to stop his conquest. One of the biggest issues I have with a lot of modern movies, is writers, producers, directors thinking that race and sexuality is what makes a character great. At the end of the day, those things don't need to be focused on to make a great film, unless the story calls for it. Like how the movie 42 had commentary about racism, due it being about the first black baseball player. At the end of the day what makes characters and stories great is the journeys, arcs and impact they make. People don't love stuff like the Lord of the Rings or Back to the Future because of the idea that Frodo may be gay or possible incest in Back to the Future. People like them because they're well written movies by people who were passionate about what they were makng.

Have you heard about "the black dude in a dress" story from Dave Chappelle? In old interviews he said one big reason he quit he is show was because Hollywood loves to put black men in women's dresses. He said he kept getting asked to do it on his show and that's when he noticed that almost all black leads at some point earlier in their career wore a dress at least once. He started thinking it was some kind of sick initiation. Like a deal with the devil. So he vetoed any skit with him wearing a dress. I thinking he was on to something. Except they changed wearing a dress to something else in these day. Dave left 50 million on the table and walked off his show. When interviewed years later he talked about how all these scripts at the time and came his way had him wearing a dress. His show wanted him to wear a dress. He went down the list of every black lead in Hollywood had indeed wore a dress for some project. He claims that was the biggest reason he left his show. Think about what's going on these days.

Anthologies happen, they just aren't usually of the big budget variety. My guess would be because they're harder to pitch for to an executive. Imagine if Fat Thor never existed in Endgame and he was still the same way that he was during Infinity War, an arc of him overcoming his feelings of apathy towards living his life as a warrior with the Guardians helping him through it every step of the way would have been an amazing movie; it should just be about them working together as a team while on a journey across the galaxy to prevent Gorr from successfully completing his genocide of the Gods. No King Valkyrie or Zeus, Jane can still be here but she doesn’t get powers and it shows her in the final stages of her cancer; (due to the events of Thor: The Dark World) she and Thor would exchange words and it would basically be both of them tying up any loose ends left between them in a heartfelt goodbye scene as Jane passes on soon afterwards. Gorr should be more prominent in this film but he isn’t corrupted by the sword and he truly believes that he’s doing the right thing for the universe, with the threat he poses well established it would take everything that Thor and the Guardians have to defeat him. Also keep out Eternity since that whole wish plot point breaks the universe even further.

Honestly, most directors get in a handful of good movies, then start crawling up their own arses. I really liked Jo Jo Rabbit, but am hard pressed to see that kinda effort from him in any of his other films. Literally, pick a director out of a hat, and this happens. Rian Johnson? F@#$ TLJ. But Knives Out? Honestly, good movie, and there wasnt a difference in directing style either. Only real difference is deconsruction makes sense for genres (like murder mystery), but make zero sense on the 8th movie... of an established trilogy... And its a sequel... In the middle of a trilogy... Where the first film was by the very derivative JJ Abrams... And because its a second film in a trilogy even if you could call Star Wars a "genre" one can "deconstruct" (the way that Rogue One did), you definitely cant on the second movie of a mainline trilogy. I kinda want to start a channel around this, comparing the best and worst works of directors.
