I worked for a farmer at age 14 that milked cows on a small scale. We hooked the milking machines up while kneeling next to the cow. Looking at this modern day type of dairy does more than blow my mind! The efficiency is so evident that he was right. Don't try to save money on the building. Think long term.
@markbagshaw21423 жыл бұрын
Hi Jay We were a small dairy farm,70 cows. We had a pipeline were we would hook upto,we had to go up between the cows(a pair)with a galvanised bucket containing a cluster,and pulsator. Then tip the milk out of that bucket into a 10 gallon churn,with a funnel filter .. Then wheel the 10 gallon churn down to the bulk tank..Great days..

As someone who hauls milk from dairy barn’s to various dairy processing facilities most of these places are feeding the cows a very precise blend it in mix of hay silage and various other nutritional additives to the cows feed to maximize milk production. Most places it is all about the maximum efficiency.
@outbackrak60933 жыл бұрын
@@MidwestFarmToys Cows might not be native to north america but many parts of the country are perfect environments for grazing cattle compared to other parts of the world. Take bison for example, they are in the same family as cattle and were abundant here long before any cows were. The government just decided that profit was more important than anything else and thats why most places don't let their cattle graze.

Beginning to think a lot of dairy in the US and the Uk are intensive dairy where the cows no longer go outside to graze on grass. But a lot has to do with the price they are paid per litre of milk more so in the UK.
@YourMom-ro1ig3 жыл бұрын
I’ve been on quite a few dairies and I’ve yet to see one that puts their cows out on grass. Grass would be like a Golden Corral buffet to you or I. What these cows eat would be like filet mignon and champagne for us. They have a good life.
@WilliamStevens0073 жыл бұрын
@@YourMom-ro1ig I see would like to see em outside like they were 20 years ago that's all. Fully aware of the diet and care given to these high yielding cows as well.

Zero grazing is insane and barbaric. Nothing to be proud of here. I milk 35 cows and I would never keep them in and feed them rubbish. Don’t you know cows need to feel the sun, the rain and the wind?
@maryjanxa5383 жыл бұрын
yeah you speak for all the cows lmao. Yeah, cows are happy when they are grazing, but you are desillusionate if you think cows go outside. The vast majority of modern farms are inside only 👍🏻 It's way easier to raise that many cows inside and you have no grazing management. Plus, you need way more acreages if you want your cows to go outside. Man, you can't please everyone even if you invest millions of dollars for your cows. Insane.

cattle in a building ? why not try a better approach ? I have seen dairy farms that raise their cows on open grass fields and every time that the cows feel that they need to be milked they will go to the right spot !! no need for a huge building like that, try to aim the more nature way !!
@moosescorner3 жыл бұрын
I'd agree but also large cow farms those fields very quickly get trampled to the point of just mud anyways and no feed value, taking up way more space than the traditional milk barn like this offers to be able to feed the cows on a field, and can't control their diets as easily. This is the most efficient way sadly.
@coltkielstra84483 жыл бұрын
the inside of the cross vent barn is cooler on hot days and warmer on cold days they are built to keep a constant temp which is more comfortable for the cows
@HectorPerez-tb8hn3 жыл бұрын
@@moosescorner I do believe you but the end result of the product it's not the same, have you watch videos from Greg Judy Regenerative Rancher ? and like him many other ranchers with great ideas, I like the way your cows looks and how clean the place looks it's like a Cattle Hotel "5 Star". When the animals are feed free range you eliminate a lot of secondary issues. God bless you and the love that you have for the animals !!
