Can we stop for a second and admire how good this movie actually looks? I think it has aged really well, and the whole set design and character design is really great!
@Adventure665 ай бұрын
that is because 3D animation is not that good at making shapes that stretch and bend a lot(like human bodies) but is great at rendering mechanical parts that have static shapes and bend and move along set joints(which is a lot more difficult and time-consuming in 2d drawn animation), so they can just go ham on the little mechanical details that give it so much character. 3D is also great at metalic and/or reflective surfaces. the whole movie plays incredibly to the strengths of 3d animation.

That moment when a kids movie makes a surprisingly good parallel to predatory medical practices and the impoverished being left to waste away and die from treatable conditions because they can't afford said treatment, all while the corporations in charge continue price gouging. I know most people see the upgrades/spare parts as a metaphor for expensive clothes, but since they are part of the robots' actual bodies, I see them more as medical conditions.
@cooldud70715 ай бұрын
I don't think they were ever meant to be commentary on clothing. You don't need clothing to live. If anything, it'd be a commentary on planned obsolescence, but because they're robots and they need those parts to continue functioning, it also becomes a commentary on the modern medical system.
@YannickJur5 ай бұрын
Yeah part of why this movie is timeless to me.
@CarbonatedGravy5 ай бұрын
I mean they are literally genociding everyone but the ultra rich both through the slow death of their bodies rotting away with no parts and through the street sweepers patrolling the streets and grinding them up for scrap, there doesn't seem to be any kind of government here either so its a bit out there to be taken as a serious commentary on anything IRL, like is the whole world run by big weld industries as a total monopoly/monarchy and nobody else can manufacture the parts? is there no regulatory agency to stop them from committing mass murder? the part about an immoral but successful business model pushing out the founder of the company in favor of shareholders is the most realistic IMO I always saw it as big companies losing their humanity when the original founder is replaced by someone uninspired and only in it for the money
@fwa85905 ай бұрын
No, it's a metaphor of how modern consumerist market have devolve into producing overpriced short-lived junks no one needs. Unlike the past where market are full of inventors producing stuffs people needs. This could include medical service, but the movie is not promoting state-controlled healthcare, if it's what you're insinuating 🤔 Considering that the big corpo is depicted to be in kahoot with the authority. TL;DR This movies promotes a society where people are free to produce stuffs that people need . It also warns against consumerism and monopoly that are secretly forced upon people. It goes beyond the typical capitalism vs socialism rhetoric.

Seeing a robot trying to invent something to make things easier for other robots reminded me of how when I was in kindergarten in 1996, I really hated school and wished there was a way for me to not have to go to school. I used to think it’d be kind of cool if in each classroom, instead of showing up, I could use some kind of computer or TV that would show my face on it and I could learn from home instead of going to school. And years later, laptops were invented, but I didn’t get one until I graduated from high school. I miss that laptop. It was a MacBook, and the last version that allowed me to use Microsoft Office, play Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4, and play my Sims 2 University CD game. After I upgraded from that version, I could no longer use Microsoft Office, play Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4, or play my Sims 2 University game. If I wanted to play sims game, I had to install it through the App Store, which I found so stupid. Sure, they keep making things to make things easier. I get that change is a part of life. But there are certain things that should just not change. I’m sorry, I went way off topic…

13:08 No, that's not an inconsistency. it takes longer for metal to magnetize the more of it there is. and also non magnetic metals completely insolate magnetism (you're too high, high guy)

How does high boi do this? I literally rewatched this movie last week, as this was one of my childhood’s favourite. And what did I see 2 days ago? “Robots explained by an idiot - new upload”. Great video btw, I love this movie.
