Growing up I always thought Van Damme looked 6 foot. But if you go back and watch Bloodsport, he’s maybe 2 inches taller than Bolo Yeung who’s claimed 5’6”. So he clearly was never 6 foot or even the 5’11” he claimed during the late 80s. In Hollywood, it’s always hard to pinpoint height because of camera angles and so many that lie about their height or wear lifts.

I was involved in Martial Arts for years and always assumed Van Damme was short -- the guy's overall acrobatic agility, speed and movement are of a smaller man. That's not to say that taller men are not just as acrobatic, but the bounciness and acrobatic "strength to weight ratio" isn't the same in a taller man vs. a shorter man.

I think Van Damme is/was 5ft 8 and a lift wearer and has never been 5ft 9 without them, like Stallone who is even shorter at 5ft 7. The Universal Soldier picture confirms Dolph Lundgren was never 6ft 4 and has always been 6ft 2 and convincingly elevated his height because of all the short action men around lying about their own height! In that picture Van Damme is happy to appear without lifts as everyone believes Lundgren is 6ft 5 - even Dolph!

False, Dolph Lundgreen was promoted 6'6 at some point but in reality when he came to America he was 1.93 mt which is solid 6'4 and nowadays he is more in the 6'2 to 6'2 1/2 range which is around 188/189 mt.

It is well known that dolph lost height. Around 6ft3.5, 6ft4 in the morning when he was younger but he shrinked to 6ft2 now. Injuries, surgeries and just simply being a doer and a active man will do this to you.

I will tell you my own experience about growth charts: At a young age, our family doctor predicted with growth charts I'll be 193 cm tall and my younger brother 189 cm. All this from grow charts. I was a tall child the firs years of primary school but normal at the end, an average middle school boy and a short high school teenager looking 3 to 5 years younger than my classmate, puberty kicking in after 16... At 15 years old I was 158 cm and our family doctor told my mom I'll be maximum around 165 to 168 cm tall as an adult. At 12 years old my younger brother was 175 cm tall and at 15 he was 185 cm tall already. At 18 years old I joined the army at 172 cm, funny thing is they measured me at 178 cm even I checked my height few days before at 172, so I knew their device was wrong and add height to everyone. At 19 years old I was 179 cm with back issues from the hard training of war school. At 22 years old, lifting weight and with a better posture I was at my definitive height of 180/181 cm. My brother never grew after 15 and stayed at 185/186 cm tall. For the record my mom was 175 cm tall and so was my dad, my dad being one of the shortest in his family, even his mom was taller than him at 178 cm tall and his other brothers were between 187 and 200 + cm. And his sisters were about his height. My mom younger brother was 185. Studying for sport I noticed that my father, my brother and I have shorter necks and torsos with broad shoulders and longer limbs (4 to 6 inches more wingspan than height) and a way more muscular built than other siblings and more explosive strength to run and jump, the same "square palmed" hands, large jawbones also the ability to do body weight exercise with great ease despite the wide range of motion, even when adding a lot of weight. I think what made us shorter than average in our family was the hormonal system and the typical muscle insertion we shared. I think doctors don't have a clue and charts can't really be trusted. They only give you a range, as Rob said, but your activity, your diet and your hormonal system will play a role no one can predict to make this vary in some extent.

@kingMarsh if I can help you out here... your Dr can get a growth plate X-ray for you done. It's an xray of your hands, laid flat. If you are done with growth, the xray is solid white bones around the wrist area. If there are missing/voids/negative and dark spots, these get measured and they can tell you how many years you have left to grow. I was tested and so was my youngest son but for the opposite reason. I was 4'8" by age 4 and he was 4'6" at age 3. Gigantism was the concern. I am not sure if you are to old for them to give predictive information like height at your age. The test is ordered with abnormalities in a child's growth. My son was 26" at birth with size 7 feet. When he was 2, the first test was ordered. They gave him the prediction of 6'5"-6'7". He is a late bloomer with low testosterone levels. Second growth plate xray was done. He is 6'4" and has 4 years left to grow. So, it's pretty accurate so far. 😊 I wish I could show you the xray, it's fascinating stuff. The test should be covered by medical plans. It's painless and there is no prep. It's a simple Xray of your hands.

Rob, I have followed you for many years. I take almost full credit for listing Rick Springfield, at six foot two in his prime. I have used a few names, but I am the on that insist that Tom Cruise is bare feet is taller than Stallone in bare feet. Stallone is a wee man. He stands about 5' 6 3/4 inches today without his shoe props. I opened the door as he exited a limo for him at Planet Hollywood. He had boots and still appeared short and small framed. I think he is brilliant artist, but he has you fooled!!!

I'm 6'4" and I've met so many movie stars in my time and they are ALL MIDGETS!!!! I was shocked to meet Pierce Brosnan and find him to truly be over 6 feet tall because virtually all the other action stars I met at various functions were diminutive at best...I remember running into Tom Cruise with Penelope Cruz and Val Kilmer at a U2 concert and I felt like Andre The Giant around these mini men and 5 foot nothing gals. Stallone is a strong 5' 6ish and Arnold isn't what he's cracked up to be either. My girlfriend still laughs thinking about when we met Hulk Hogan and he called me "Big Man" even though he was said to be ridiculous heights in his career ... he was shorter than me as well. Now I can say Fred Dryer IS tall and still in great shape and James Arness (Gunsmoke) was tall as was Clint Walker (Cheyenne) but those are exceptions ..... just take several inches off what they say ... goodness De Niro and Pacino are munchkins and wear Herman Munster shoes when acting and stand on items in films when they are in shots talking to others or kissing women....mini men.
