That musical turnaround in the verse sections is just WOW. Gives it that down home feelin'. This song is a pure jam track and the recording sounds almost live.

This used to be one of the hardest songs to find. It was originally released as a B side. Pretty much only radio stations had it. I eventually got a DJ to make a tape of it for me in 1985. I felt like I won the lottery!

This is why you gotta do "Battle Of Evermore" from Zep's untiteled fourth album haunting mandolin and Plant and Sandra Denny making magic on the vocals. It is a classic among life long Zep fans! Even Heart covered it under the alias The Love Mongers I believe, and as Heart too.

funny to see y'all blown away by the use of the mandolin, when the entire Zeppelin III album has a lot of it, and they used it a lot on other albums, too. I never saw them live, but i've heard plenty of bootlegs, and their shows always seemed to have an acoustic portion to give them a bit of a break. always so good.

Led Zeppelin IV has two acoustic-only somgs: THE BATTLE OF EVERMORE, with Jimmy Page on mandolin amd John Paul Jones on acoustic guitar, and GOING TO CALIFORNIA, with Page on acoustic guitar and Jones on mandolin. THE BATTLE OF EVERMORE is the best mandolin song in rock history, and leads into STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN on the album.

Have a listen to their best song ever produced, the studio version of `No Quarter'. The members of Led Zeppelin were influenced the a variety of genres of music - Delta / Chicago Blues, Celtic, Bluegrass Folk and Classical. Some things they put their rock spin to them. Other acoustic songs on Led Zeppelin III are Tangerine, That's the Way and Hat's off To (Roy Harper). The music critics panned that album because that album had so many acoustic songs. The best thing about LZ was they had almost total artistic control over their recordings. They were the epitome of Album oriented music. Acoustic guitar parts appeared on most of their albums, either as the primary instrument or as a backing instrument to the electric parts. BTW - Joe Walsh (James Gang, Eagles, solo) sold Jimmy Page the Gibson Les Paul that became Jimmy's number one stage guitar and used on recordings as needed. 🎸😎

Again, one of the great "Classic Rock Bands" of all time. First time I heard this song was just after realizing a girl I like very much just didn't have the same interests as myself. This is easily my favorite Led Zeppelin song. I saw them in concert July 21, 1973. at Providence Civic Center. I had turned 15 two months prior. John Bonham played solo for about 10 or 15 mins during intermission. It was 2nd loudest concert I had ever been to at that time. The loudest was Jimi Hendrix at Rhode Island Auditorium, May 17, 1969, I just turned 11. How we got the tickets is a long story. My friend got them. We were late. We arrived just as Jimi Hendrix came on stage. It was dark and it was first time we smelled weed. A lot of the old white guys were giving us a hard time but not the African Americans. It was incredibly loud. After two songs we left. We were scared. The Rhode Islan Auditorium was such an old brick build we could hear Jimi just fine outside the building across the street at my friends house. Steely Dan - Peg, Babylon Sisters, Black Cow, Home at Last, Pretzel Logic, Aja.
