I agree. I've heard Bob Seger songs so many times over many decades, but never really dug deep into the lyrics until a couple years ago. Bob Seger's lyrics paint a picture in my minds eye clearer than almost any other songwriter I can think of. Another criminally underrated songwriter is Neil Peart, the drummer of Rush. Neal Peart also wrote many songs with lyrics that paint a picture in my minds eye. Unless you are a fan of Rush, nobody knows how amazing Neil Peart's lyrics are.

When I was a young man listening to this kind of music, I wondered if I would ever sit back and remember my life like this. Everything was new, I liked the music but couldn't relate. Now that I am older, my body and mind broken with the best years way behind me, it feels different. I hear Seger's voice and lyrics, but I feel the sentiment and look back at my own experiences. I hope young people learn to cherish what they have. Life is fragile and really, really short. Don't waste it.

Started following Bob around 1969. Used to see him every time he booked a gig in Cleveland at the small bars. In the 70s my band covered this song and I got to sing it. Now, at the ripe young age of 70, the line, "Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then", really hits home with me. Truer words were never spoken! J and Amber, you two always make my day. I wish you and everyone else on this channel much love and peace. ❤✌

I love that you followed Bob since the beginning so I thought you’d like this story. A friend of mine who is right around 70/72 or so lived in Waukegan illinois. His highschool had a battle of the bands one night at the local roller rink- two unknowns at the time, but Seger was one of the bands. Well, his highschool picked the other band and booed Bob and the silver bullet band off. My friend to this day just kicks himself for being a “dumb teenager” back then. Of course the other band that won never did a thing!! Anyway I love hearing him tell us that story after a couple of beers and a Seger or two song on the jukebox! Too crazy!
@tedcole99362 жыл бұрын
Ok, story time, but mine is pretty weak. I grew up in a northern suburb of Detroit in the 60’s. My sister was 2years older and into rock and roll at the time. Bob Seger played at a very small joint she went to called the Teen Center in our town pretty often, it was a non-alcoholic hangout the city put together. But alas, I was too young and withdrawn to go there, but as Seger continued to gain fame I remembered… “hey isn’t that the guy that…?” Much later, in the 90s, I co-owned a record store in the same general area, and Kid Rock would come in with his cardboard box full of home-made “bootleg tapes” to consign in our store. He really was a “Kid” back then… They ALL start at the bottom, some work hard & get lucky, too!

I'm such a huge Bob Seger fan and he was a few years before my generation but my dad's taste in music inspired me to pick up the guitar and force myself to practice my dad was a good guitar player, performer and singer but I just couldn't learn from him at the age of 15-16 so I stopped in a music store in 1989 maybe 1990 and I purchased two chord books full of songs, one was the best of Bob Seger and the other was the best of The Eagles! Not really the music of my generation but music I absolutely loved and really wanted to be able to entertain myself and I just continued to learn and still learning today at 47 years old.

One of the greatest ever songwriters, and when Bob sings, it feels like he's having a one to one conversation with you. One of his best, and often overlooked songs, is "Understanding"......the piano and female backing vocals always give me goose bumps.

"Trying To Live My Life Without You" and "Feel Like A Number" are great songs by Bob that don't get enough attention. "Trying To Live My Life Without You" is a cover but does sound like a song Bob would write.

I've been blessed to see Bob more times than I can remember. He was way more popular around Detroit were I'm from than the rest of the country. He used to sell out stadiums for like 6 nights in a row. Nobody can do that now.

Bro you can’t listen to Bob Seger and say I didn’t listen to the lyrics. Bob Seger and Johnny Cash and a few others are the best there is in the business that’s what they’re known for.

I was wondering when you would get around to this song. A fantastic singer, songwriter, entertainer, solid kickass band and decades of hits = A trip to be immortalized in The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Bob Seger is great interstate cruising music. Hit I-75 headed north to the UP at 2 AM doing 80 mph with Bob playing to keep me company.

So glad you keep going back to Bob . I've been to at least 100 concerts . Including huge artist like , the Stones , the who , Elton John ..... but Bob Seger was my favorite. He sounds as good live as he does on his records , and I've never seen an artist smile as much as him . If you want to hear something a little faster by him . Try : Get out of Denver . 😀

Hi guys ! Bob got soft like this in the 80's..You really need to study anything off of Bob from about 67-77 or "Live bullet" this was a big album with the silver bullet band. Or go even further back to the bob seger system..Check out "Heavy music" "Katmandu","Ramblin man","Lookin back"etc. These are some fire roots of early rock and roll

One of my favorite songs is "Night Moves". You may have done that one. I will look it up if you did. Another great Seger tune is "Roll Me Away". Imagine hitting the open rode on your motorcycle, letting the world fall behind you. "I could head east, I could go west. It was all up to me to decide."

This one of those rare albums that every song is great. The keyboard/organ in this song is just killer. The story telling and play on words is superb songwriting.

My favorite Bob Seger song BY FAR is "Old Time Rock & Roll", both for the music, & for the sentiment. Also, the beautiful piano music in "Against the Wind" brought to mind 2 other great piano hits & their singers/players: "The Way It Is" by Bruce Hornsby & The Range, & "No One Is To Blame" by Howard Jones! Jay & Amber, please react to these songs & artists.

Bob Seger , he didn't write songs. He wrote beautiful stories that were set to music. A true bard.

Bob had so many huge hits...this one is one of his best. He had a string of albums in the 70's -early 80's, that were so good, they all seemed like Greatest Hits albums, it was amazing.
