Here's the thing...normally when listening to a live version of a song, you're not getting the optimal vocal interpretation of the song, as you normally get in the studio version. When you listen to a live song, and it's just as good, if not better, than the studio version...that's when you're 'special'. This is why Steve Perry is seen as one of the truly great vocalists.

Your both kind of right. It isn't the Studio version but when you make a live album you have to "clean up" the noise from a live performance. Journey has such amazing chemistry. The instrumentation, vocals, and lyrics of so many of their songs are proof of this. Personally, Only the Young stands out because of a segment from Behind the Music. The mother of a young fan who was losing his battle with a terminal illness wrote them a letter. Her son's last wish was to meet the band so they rushed to his bedside. They brought with them a tape player and headphones with a demo of Only the Young. He was the first person outside the band to hear the song and just melted into the bed while listening to it. He passed away the next day. It will always be his song.
