Oh how this takes me back to the summer of 71, I was 15 and after begging my parents for a horse for years they finally broke down and bought me one. I used to take a little transistor radio with me when I would go riding and this song was always on the radio. It always reminds me of my horse who's name was Shadow. From my home city! The Band is named after the world famous annual ten day festival and rodeo the Calgary Stampede that is held every July. The Festival contains one of the countries largest music festivals, a midway, and agricultural showcase and is the second largest festival by annular draw in Canada after the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto.

I listen to music hours every day for over 50 years. I can pretty much tell you instantly who did a song. Even though I have heard this song 100's of times I never knew the name of the band. Which is rare. If someone said take a guess I'd say Three Dog Night lol

Yuppers, there are cowboys in Canada😊The Calgary Stampede, here in Alberta, is an annual rodeo, exhibition, and festival held every July in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The ten-day event, which bills itself as "The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth", attracts over one million visitors per year and features one of the world's largest RODEOs, a parade, midway, stage shows, concerts, agricultural competitions, chuckwagon racing, and First Nations exhibitions. In 2008, the Calgary Stampede was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame.

The Calgary Stampede! One of the largest rodeos in the world, of course we have cowboys :) I love this song! Of course it was all over Canadian radio at the time, I was very young then but still remember all the lyrics. A great, upbeat, unique song. I'm sure some will recommend their Wild Eyes, or Oh My Lady, but I really like Carry Me, an anti war song. I would also love for you two to check out One Fine Morning by Lighthouse, another Canadian band from the same year. An absolutely amazing song, prog rock jazz. They had 13 members and a very unique sound. One of the most upbeat songs I've ever heard.
