Jethro Tull sounds the same live as they do on the studio recordings. There's no band like Tull. Ian Anderson is a genius.

@@allengator1914 It didn't sound exactly like the studio version I'm familiar with. Perhaps the band was miming, but Anderson's vocals and flute seemed different to me. Also, instead of the second verse, he repeats the first one here...for what that's worth.

There's nothing quite like Jethro Tull live because of Ian Anderson. He is probably the most underrated frontman in rock history. Whenever they'd have live broadcasts of their performances filmed, the entire band and especially Ian would stand completely still during rehearsals and then go all over the place during the actual performance so the cameramen couldn't keep up. Can't wait for you two to do more Tull reactions!

You won't hear too many popular songs written in a 5/4 time signature. Living In The Past is one of them Others off the top of my head- Dave Brubeck Quartet's Take Five and parts of the rolling drumbeat on Cream's White Room. Oh, and the Mission Impossible theme is in 5/4.

What timing! This Saturday I'm going to see Martin Barre (the guitarist for Jethro Tull) perform Tull's hits at a small venue in NH. This will make the 3rd time I've seen him. He's getting old, but still rocking out. Add my vote for 'Bungle in the Jungle' please, it's awesome.

I have seen alot of live shows in my day. Rush and Triumph many times each, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath with Dio, Scorpions, David Bowie and on and on but, I have never forgotten the feeling I had after seeing Jethro Tull and how fully entertained I felt compared to others.

I read Geddy Lee’s autobiography, “My Eff’n Life”. He said that Jethro Tull was one of his progressive inspirations. I saw Tull live in the early 80’s at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. It was awesome!

There's lots of good stuff on their "Stand Up" LP which was their second LP release. "Nothing Is Easy" and "A New Day Yesterday" were standouts for me. The cover for "Stand Up" had a folded cardboard picture of the band that would STAND UP when you opened the gatefold. My favorite Tull story is their journey to their name. According to Ian, when they had a bad gig at a local bar or dance hall, they'd just change their name. Wouldn't have the rep of a bad gig follow them that way. They changed their name about five or six times before they settled on Jethro Tull.

i always marvel at how Ian Anderson was self-taught as a flautist. it's apparently not technically correct, but he picked it up and figured it out how to make it work for him and fit in in a rock band.

Being a old guy I remember seeing Jethro Tull live when they came to the US for the first time. They were big in England but really hadn't caught on in the US yet and they were on the bill for a benefit concert I went to and sounded great. They were more a straight rock band then not a Prog Rock band yet. I working in a record store for many years back then and Jethro Tull was HUGE back then a long string a big albums especially Thick As A Brick I sold tons of that album. Also back then because of Ian Anderson and his flute everyone was learning to play flute and you'd hear people play Tull song on flute everywhere you went. But Tull seems to die off quickly unlike Pink Floyd and other bands. Not sure why but I never hear people talk much about Tull anymore so interesting to hear them again.

My Dad met Ian while walking in Scotland, he has or had a fish farm on an estate in scotland. My dad when he realised who he was, told him that his daughter was a huge fan and I adored this track. I saw Jethro Tull while at college in the 70`s.

Greg Lake, the best singer in progressive rock, also sung on King Crimson's first two albums. Epitaph is my favorite King Crimson song. With Robert Fripp and Greg Lake you can go wrong. Also, Amber will love the poetic lyrics written by Peter Sinfeld.

Yes, some old school Jethro Tull, those early Tull albums are utter classics, I get you want to see them live and that is fair enough BUT Please don't ignore the album originals for the same reason as Zeppelin or the WHO: their studio mastery, pristine mixes and the original classic songs are almost always a better audio experience for sure. Live is always a it looser and Ian is a must see. Try Sweet Dreams from the same album, live is nice, studio, classic. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎻🎷🎶

I think that this was probably Tull’s most mainstream commercial song. Not putting it down, I love it, but it’s not high on my list of favourites. Bungle in the Jungle was another of their few radio hits and I never cared much for it in the old days but I’ve grown much more fond of it now. For my personal tastes I like anything off of either Heavy Horses or Songs from the Woods best.

Firstly Jethro Tull was never really a singles band, Living In The Past was like many of Tull’s albums a concept album. Secondly this performance was not live but they were miming to the studio track. Believe me I am 68 and was in the audience for this TV show as a young man.
