This song was written for his roommate and best friend, Andrew Wood, Who tragically died of an overdose. Andrew was the lead singer of the band Mother Love Bone. After Andrew passed, Chris wrote this record with some of the remaining members of Mother Love Bone and his band Soundgarden. A then unknown singer by the name of Eddie Vedder makes his first ever studio recorded vocal on the track Hunger Strike. A classic album was the result. Most of the remaining members of Mother Love Bone went on to form Pearl Jam with new Lead vocalist Eddie Vedder

This song was written about singer Andrew Wood, singer of Mother Love Bone. They were about to hit it big when Andrew died of a Heroin overdose in March of 1990. Temple of the Dog was a one off tribute album and it's Legendary. Members of TotD includes every current member of Pearl Jam. To answer your question, Yes. Chris Cornell had 5 studio albums and one live album: Euphoria Morning (1999) - lite rock, kind of psychedelic Carry On (2007) - lite-ish hard rock Scream (2009) - People talk sh*t about this album because it's a Pop/Dance/Rock collaboration with Timbaland, but it still has some great songs and Chris's voice. Songbook (2011) *LIVE Acoustic Album Higher Truth (2015) - acoustic folk rock No One Sings Like You Anymore Vol. 1 (2020 - posthumously) - some of his favorite cover songs Notable Singles: Seasons - 'Singles' soundtrack Sunshower - 'Great Expectations' soundtrack He also had two compilation albums: The Roads We Choose - A Retrospective (2007) Chris Cornell (2018)

I check you guys out every day but I have not written a comment in ages. When I saw you were doing this song I was thrilled and just had to chime in. Before getting into it I'd love for you to check out Cornell's cover of "Nothing Compares 2 U" and his cover on the Howard Stern show of John Lennon's "Imagine." Hearing that voice on those songs will blow your minds. My other suggestion is a song from Audioslave called "I am the Highway" for not only a great vocal but another example of Cornell's brilliant and imaginative lyrics. Now back to this song. Cornell's voice especially at the end just gives me chills every time despite hearing this song countless times. That guitar solo just makes me want to jump out of my seat and at the very end of it, when it has peaked ,and then there is a pause, a single drum beat, and two chords just gets me every time. Lyrically it is among Cornell's best so many great verses, just poetry. A few favorites: "He came from an island Then he died from the street And he hurt so bad like a soul breakin' But he never said nothin' to me, yeah" His friend Andrew came from an island in this case Hawaii and died of an overdose. "New like a baby, lost like a prayer The sky was your playground But the cold ground was your bed Oo, I said, poor Stargazer She's got no tears in her eyes But fool like a whisper She knows that love heals all wounds with time" Just beautiful writing. "Now it seem like too much love Is never enough, yeah, you better seek out Another road 'cause this one has ended abrupt" That line "better seek out another road because this one has ended abrupt" is of course about the sudden death of his friend Andrew but knowing how Chris passed it takes on whole new meaning. "I never wanted To write these words down for you With the pages of phrases Of all the things we'll never do Hey, so I blow out, out the candle and I put you to bed" Amber already summarized this perfectly so I will say no more. As I am writing this I noticed I copied down almost all the lyrics in the song as favorites but they really are just that good. Thanks for the stellar review!

Hi Jay, yeah, Chris Cornell has 5 solo albums under his belt. All are a must listen. He really spans the music spectrum with them. Great road trip music. Now, there is another AMAZING artist/band out there that has done the same thing that Chris has done. Ian Thornley of Big Wreck/Thornley fame. He was recently on Rick Beato's channel discussing his career and when it comes to Big Wreck/Thornley, I've dubbed their music Sneaky Heavy. Like that Running Back or Boxer that has that "Sneaky Speed" and when it happens in front of you, you're just...in awe. My main love about this whole record it's a dedication to their fallen Brother in Rock, Andrew Wood of Mother Lovebone. We love and miss you Andrew, the music world is a sadder place without you in it. And now that Chris has left us, this song hits even harder. Today's my Mom's Birthday, she would have been 98 today. I lost her in 2010. She passed away on the operating table. So, listening to this with you I was right there with you, folks. Every moment, every emotion. A great song to play to remember how much on meant so much to you and will never leave you. I know I'll get to see all I know who've fallen in my life. When I get there, I'm sure they'll tell me after my Judgment and we're standing in front of the Gates, "Say hello to Heaven." Been working all night on my content to help me cope with these feelings of loss. It's 0542. I'm hitting the rack. Love the content. Keep the rock coming and I really hope you check out Big Wreck/Thornley. I tell anyone who is in our community. They're a coast to coast band. Put in their music, and drive coast to coast without hitting the skip track button. The Sarge

Dont know about a solo career but Chris does sing "Nothing Compares to You" and if you ever want a great cover song of Prince and Sinéad O'Connor, LISTEN to Chris's version....AMAZING!!!!!!

Damn, how did I forget about this song? So much has happened in the past few decades. I wore this cassette out, then moved, changed lives, moved again, changed countries, new life again. Forgot all about it and the life I had that surrounded it. Now I am sitting here filled with flashbacks from my young adult self. Music is a trip.

Yes Chris has lots of solo work, and you guys also need to do Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi

Temple of the Dog is a fantastic album, a great supergroup from 1991, I was lucky to see their brief tour in 2016. Great show!
