I grew up in the last half of the 1950's, throughout the 1960's, & first half of the 70's listening to all the great crooners. Andy Williams is always the first one to come to mind when I think of that beautiful style. Each Christmas, my parents and I would play our LP Christmas records (which I still have), listening to the wonderful voices of Andy Williams, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole, the Carpenters, Elvis Presley, and others melodiously singing the sacred and secular songs of the Christmas season! Many years later, my wife and I carried on the same tradition with our four children, and it's a treasured part of our memories, both theirs and ours.

"Speak Softly Love" from the move "The Godfather" [1972]. "A Summer Place" from the movie "A Summer Place" [1962]. "Somewhere My love" from the movie "Doctor Zhivago" [1965]. "Born Free" from the movie "Born Free" [1966]. "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing" from the movie "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing" [1951]. These are just a few of his greatest movie theme songs that all went platinum for the late great Andy Williams. One of the smoothest crooners ever...Here are some more of his movie theme hit songs. "The Exodus Song" from the movie "Exodus" (1960). "Maria and Tonight" from the movie "The Westside Story" (1960). "As Time Goes By" from the movie "Casablanca" (1942). Back when you guys did that incredible solo by Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers (wearing his pink suit) singing "Unchained Melody," live, it was on NBC-TV's "The Andy Williams Show," which ran for well over a decade in prime time. It was one of the longer-running musical/variety shows that ever ran on TV. Andy's guest list on that show reads like a Who's Who of American popular music (or at least Adult Contemporary music) from the 1960s and early '70s. Mostly Andy and his contemporaries were artists that my parents would listen to (I grew up on the Beatles, Righteous Brothers, Beach Boys, Motown, etc.) But Andy Williams cannot be discounted as a force. The song "Moon River" will forever be the one he's most closely associated with. And yet, he never released it as a single (which comes as a surprise to many). Some of his best songs include, "Can't Get Used to Losing You," "Days of Wine and Roses," and my favorite by Andy Williams, a Bossa Nova piece called "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars (Corcovado)." kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3OZn6WPgbejlbs But honestly, you can't get through the Christmas season, even today ten years after his death, without hearing Andy Williams singing Christmas songs on radio and television in commercials, none more ubiquitous than "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year." kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXfXk2Z7qc94n8U Speaking of crooners (and I know how much you love your crooners), here's one that has been conspicuously overlooked by you and every other reaction channel that I know of. And at 95, he remains a living legend and a national treasure. He recently appeared in a "farewell" concert with Lady Gaga that was broadcast on CBS. It was simply breathtaking. I'm speaking, of course, of the great Tony Bennett. Frank Sinatra called him his favorite singer. And Tony has a stunning catalog of hits from which to choose. Here are just a few highlights: "(I Left My Heart) In San Francisco" -- the song he's best known for -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3rSqICtl62Hias "If I Ruled the World" -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaTboGyhe6Zogbc "I Wanna Be Around" -- one of the greatest f--- you songs ever recorded. -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/ap7PkIltfbN8qbs And a couple that he recorded as duets with more contemporary artists in recent years: "The Lady Is A Tramp" (featuring Lady Gaga) -- this is just adorable -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIGknneLgaiJqLc "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" (featuring Michael Buble -- pronounced boo-BLAY') - kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4eaknWwqt2IkJo You could spend a very long time doing a deep dive into crooners. There have been so many of them that you guys don't even know about.

Okay, I KNOW what y'all are going to say here. I know. I wouldn't believe me either. But here it is: I sang backup for Andy Williams during his Christmas tour in 1985. He made a swing through the Midwest that year, and in many of his stops, the tour arranged for local college and high school choirs to sing backup for him onstage, a kind of publicity stunt, I suppose, but the producers did their jobs well and stuck to jazz and show choirs in each city, so for Kalamazoo, that meant Western Michigan University's Gold Company vocal jazz ensemble got the gig. He was an amazing guy. Physically tiny-- like, 5'-2" or so-- but a voice that could still peel the paint off the back wall of the auditorium. His voice was deceptively powerful; he could get over an entire orchestra without breaking a sweat. He very much kept to himself; he even seemed a bit shy. Fun fact: former Mouseketeer Cubby O'Brien was his drummer on that tour. He was so great! I told him I was going to be auditioning for Disney theme parks in the spring, and he appeared to get a genuine tear in his eye; he spoke fondly of those days (it was the 1950s), and Annette and Frankie, and yes, they still kept in touch, and yes, he cried the day Walt died... Honestly, one of my favorite memories. So cool.

Moon River by Andy Williams and Tammy by Debbie Reynolds have bucolic, river/bayou vibes. Both songs are full of yearning and longing, but not sadness. Love them both. Thanks for this reaction.

omg! This one brought a tear to my eye. He was one of my dad's favorite artists. Dad used to sing this song around the house when I was a kid, and it made me think of him. My dad died in 2006. Andy Williams had his own show on TV back in the 60's, and his Christmas show was always so lovely, with all kinds of guests. Kind of makes me sad, there aren't really anything like that anymore.

The woman in one of the photos is Claudine Longet, a French singer that became his wife for several years. She had some hit songs as well, though some were in French. Love Is Blue is a very lovely song by her. They had some duets together also. You will instantly recognize some of his Christmas songs as they are classics.

Henry Mancini always said that Audrey Hepburn’s rendition of this song in “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” was the best version. It was softly sung with a minimal acoustic guitar, dreamy and lovely….. Also, the studio wanted to cut the song, and Audrey fought hard to keep it.

Andy Williams was friends with Robert F. Kennedy, and sang at his funeral, I think the Battle Hymn of the Republic. He also covered Dion's "Abraham, Martin, and John" which memorializes Bobby Kennedy in the final verse. Something to consider.

This song came out when I was a boy and it was a favorite of mine all my life. Andy started with this brothers as the Williams Brothers and they were playing in Las Vegas when they were under 18 and the mob ran everything there. He later started recording on his own and he is the go to for many of the Christmas songs we hear (along with Perry Como). He had a great range in his voice and his version of OH Holy Night is the best I can think of. I miss him and his TV specials a lot. Also married to Claudine Longet who was a person of interest in the killing Pro skier Spider Sabich. I won't reveal more, but you can look it up.

When they broke up it nearly broke Andy's heart! You didn't have to be an adult to see it. But he still stuck by her through the whole ordeal. As an aside, it was on Andy's show that Bobby Hatfield sang "Unchained Melody". You probably saw it.

@@barbaraburton8914 Yes, he always stood by her and I believe she was still on his Christmas shows with the kids after they split. Also, yes, about Bobby Hatfield. In the longer version on KZbin, it includes a introduction by Andy. Such a class guy and I really miss the Christmas specials.
