Thank you, Mr. Leppard. Handel's music is lively, lyrical and above all, beautifully written.

You're right. This piece, especially "larghetto e staccato" is so beautiful it has to be savored. Therefore, it shouldn't be rushed.

WQXR radio uses the closing few notes of the first movement as one of their themes. That is where I first heard this piece, and am grateful it's here in its entirety, as I enjoy the entire piece.

The concerti of Opus 6 are among the most entertaining music that GFH ever wrote. Nr 5 is particularly amusing; I remember a ballet in the 70s that used this music, and in which the dancers pantomimed a circus performance of acrobats and wirewalkers.

Aquí todo irradia grandeza, imaginación y brillantez. De su integral de "Concerti Grossi",opus 3 y 6,me quedaría, tras muchas dudas, con este concierto.

The fifth movement and the final menuet are soooooo Haendelian. They make me think of a single word: Nobility.

Reading the program above, it should be obvious that "movement" 1 is a mere introduction which falls forward directly into the Allegro; thus this is in reality one movement, and the work in its entirety really consists of five movements, not six. This particular concerto grosso has always been very special for me, ranking alongside the Water Music and Royal Fireworks Music, and I feel that it might well be presented with a larger ensemble, as was in fact done many years ago. A somewhat slower tempo for some of the movements would not be amiss either, in the interest of giving the music a bit more stature which I feel it clearly deserves. In any event, this work is definitely not a run-of-the-mill one of many similar generic baroque concertos. Authenticists and purists would probably tear out their hair at my comments, but there is no getting away from the fact that this concerto is really something very special, definitely not to be buried in the Op. 6 series with the other eleven of the set. And it deserves a lot more, at least I feel, than a casual run through as it gets here.

I agree, and have had the privilege and delight to dance a minuet to the appropriate section. In that connection, have you heard the Guildhall version of this with Nickolson conducting? Well worth uncovering!

There's no doubt that the Minuet is the best. I'm sorry but I don't care for the rest of the movements.

This particular concerto is very far from being run of the mill for me - it stands out from the group that puts it on a par with the Water Music and Royal Fireworks Music. And to show it off at its best, it should be played in a stately, majestic manner to show off its beauties, and not rattled off insanely at breakneck speed as seems to be the deplorable trend with all music making of today.
