I've got one and friggin love that radio. It's my second. The first was years ago and I had extra channels unlocked. The one I have now was bought about 16 years ago but I don't use it in the car.

I’m from New Zealand and I currently have one of these that I’ve just pulled down from the attic after 25 years of absence and thanks your video. I didn’t realise this but Australia where my unit came from they market it as a Ferris SSB-5000 and has the exact same functions and fascia as yours So Robyn must have exported a few over here. Also from reading some comments on these units, I understand it has the same board as a cobra 138 XLR not too sure of this But mine Sound Great also! Yours Looks to be in Great condition for it age.😎

You are correct on that chassis, it is also used in the 138XLR, President Adams, first gen Grant, Madison and I think Washington. Many more radios, but the main thing is that although the UPD 858 chassis is IMO one of the best chassis ever made it had some issues due to some of to Importers bean counters going cheap in ordering units with their specifications. I'm glad you found your, enjoy that beautiful receiver. Cheers

I used to have 2 pace radios that looked nearly identical including the ext spr switch. I think it's so in most radios once ext spr plugged in you haven't the ability to hear the internal spr without unplugging the ext spr but the switch allows you to switch between the two easier.

I’m curious if the internal and external speaker switch is for headphones or normal speaker I find myself in that situation where I walk away and forget to unplug the headphones

Nice radio (SB-510D). I've had about a half dozen of these come and go. And most of the time they're cheap (to buy). I 'm sure there are some beat up, rusty, dented versions out there somewhere, but every one I've picked up has been as clean as the one you just displayed, in fact I bought one while I was supposed to be getting rid of radios for our move last year, but for $30 I couldn't say no. It's a new low price for me, so now I can say I've bought all of mine for as low as $30, going up to $70. The only reasons why these seem to sell so low now is the fake wood faceplate, which matches their 520D base isn't in fashion, or the lack of a real adjustable RF Gain control. The dimmer knob is kinda useless and I've had a couple of these where the wires were removed and tied to full brightness and the control was replaced with (i guess) a spare am-usb-lsb switch, making it a 3 pos. switch for channel mods. But I sure like this model compared to their 505D am/ssb mobile with it's plain faceplate. It did have an RF Gain control, Tone control, and Mic gain control but put the clarifier in the mic (Clar-0-mic). Nice video 👍

I donated the 751 to a good friend. I must say that was a Hammy Ham rig I was sad to see go, the receiver on the 751 was top notch and rivaled my TS 850SAT. The Icoms audio when used with the goose neck mic was just awesome. I wish I made some videos with that rig. Much better RX than my Yaesu 991A.
