The reason why Robyn's version is the best, is because everyone else plays this song in the same heartbreak song format, sad and slow. This is like you are literally in the club seeing the person you love with someone else and your so alone in a crowd of people. The bridge just wants you to burst out the pain. That's the reason this is so good and personal. We have all been there.

The truth is the song is so good that you can slow down, do a rock version, a bossa nova version, play with guitars, with piano and it's still amazing. This deserved being an smash hit. Fortunately all those versions are giving this a new life

I agree. Been going through all those best tracks of 2014 and they are abysmal across all categories of popular music. This track has syncopation, a riff, a lyric that the listener can relate to rather than some cryptic shit only the singer understands, it has a pretty good chorus too. The only decent tracks from 2014 so far that I can think of are Coldplay's Magic (great video) and Taylor Swift's 'Shake It Off' - a bunch of Swedes behind the latter too.

Ok let me set this straight. I'm not here to hate or something and I acknowledge the fact that Calum did an amazing cover, he's a fantastic vocalist. But Robyn's original version makes SO much sense. The melody you hear is not what the person singing the lyrics IS LISTENING, watching their lover not giving attention to them. When I hear this song I can figure it out. I'm in the corner of a disco. People are dancing to this song. I see among all those people, the person I love the most dancing, smiling, kissing, with another person. But you can't help to dance. It becomes cathartic. I just love the feeling this version gives to me.

@@CharlesLiu03 American idol got off on completely changing, arrangements (destroying) originals for shock value. Maybe it's cuz Robyn is a personal fav of mine, but the song is fast and "dancy" but it's pain, jealousy, rage, sadness. It's not a happy song at all. So Calum making an already sad song slow n boring, and a woman's song, was gutsy but it turned me right off. I miss old R&B and house music. Music is trash made by computers/lip syncing. i won't ever get tired of this song. the way the lyrics contrast the upbeat instrumentals/vocals makes this song much more empowering than calum scott's version. it doesn't retain the liberating aspect of this song that i love. this song, i think, is meant to be listened to, danced to, in order to release all the pain that the lyrics contain -- the anger, jealousy, and heartbreak of seeing someone you long for with someone else. though seemingly silly or "stupid," it's also so real and felt in all of us. personally, i don't really like calum scott's cover mainly because his invites you to dwell on the pain rather than the original which pushes you to be strong, move on, let ago, and not let the pain define you no matter how much it hurts.

@@TheBetterGamer Robyn has influenced some of the major pop records of the decade. Taylor Swift, Ariana, Lorde, Carly Rae Jepsen, they all took some inspiration for their albums. Max Martin, who used to work with Robyn, said that he often has pop stars coming to him saying that they want to make a record like Body Talk. You probably have never heard of Robyn, but a lot of artists have. And if you go back to the 90s, Britney Spears was first signed in a record label as an effort to create an "american Robyn", as she was already huge in Europe.

LYRICS: [Verse 1] Somebody said you got a new friend Does she love you better than I can? There's a big, black sky over my town I know where you at, I bet she's around [Refrain] Yeah, I know it's stupid, I just gotta see it for myself [Chorus] I'm in the corner, watching you kiss her, ooh I'm right over here, why can't you see me? Ooh I'm giving it my all But I'm not the girl you're taking home, ooh I keep dancing on my own (I keep dancing on my own) [Verse 2] I'm just gonna dance all night I'm all messed up, I'm so outta line Stilettos and broken bottles I'm spinning around in circles [Chorus] I'm in the corner, watching you kiss her, ooh I'm right over here, why can't you see me? Ooh I'm giving it my all But I'm not the girl you're taking home, ooh I keep dancing on my own I keep dancing on my own [Bridge] So far away, but still so near (The lights go on, the music dies) But you don't see me standing here (I just came to say goodbye) [Chorus] I'm in the corner, watching you kiss her, ohh I'm right over here, why can't you see me? Ooh I'm giving it my all But I'm not the girl you're taking home, ooo I keep dancing on my own I keep dancing on my own I'm in the corner, watching you kiss her, ohh I'm right over here, why can't you see me? Ooh I'm giving it my all But I'm not the girl you're taking home, ooo I keep dancing on my own I keep dancing on my own [Outro] I keep dancing on my own

This was my breakup song for a fairly significant romantic relationship when it first came out in 2010. Watching it covered in Bridgerton really brought all those memories flooding back. Made me emotional and I honestly had to take a break watching the episode. I know some people think Bridgerton is silly and soapy but thanks Robyn for being open to having your art used in this way. Well done for this classic and having the talent to be able to convey emotion like this. Music is timeless and universal.

This song got me through some tough times the summer it came out. I was hella single and hella jealous because of it and that summer we DANCED. This song is about DANCING. We need no ballad version of this song. I'm sorry. Dance music gets treated so terribly in the music business. It is NOT disposable. It's primal, real, energetic, cathartic and emotional! Keep dancing everyone. Keep dancing.

This is the low standard we have set in recent times. It is an enjoyable pop/dance song but lyrically it is somewhat silly, and musically it is very very basic. But I still enjoy it for what it is, a club song with some emotion. That's it. Why people think this an objectively "good" song beyond a club jam is simply ludicrous. But like 90s dance songs, it will be a classic in that regard, better than many in that genre.

@@turntablesrockmyworld9315 Oh come on, that's what everyone your age says. If you really actually knew you wouldn't be so ignorant. Also. that whole 'it's so musically basic' argument has to stop. Writing such infectious melodies with very few notes but that sound unique to that specific song is the absolute hardest thing to do as a writer. Few people can do it well. Songs that try to complicated sound so forced and only the use of weird notes makes them interesting. You sound like a rick beato fan.
