The reason why Robyn's version is the best, is because everyone else plays this song in the same heartbreak song format, sad and slow. This is like you are literally in the club seeing the person you love with someone else and your so alone in a crowd of people. The bridge just wants you to burst out the pain. That's the reason this is so good and personal. We have all been there.
@yomismo748 жыл бұрын
The truth is the song is so good that you can slow down, do a rock version, a bossa nova version, play with guitars, with piano and it's still amazing. This deserved being an smash hit. Fortunately all those versions are giving this a new life

I agree. Been going through all those best tracks of 2014 and they are abysmal across all categories of popular music. This track has syncopation, a riff, a lyric that the listener can relate to rather than some cryptic shit only the singer understands, it has a pretty good chorus too. The only decent tracks from 2014 so far that I can think of are Coldplay's Magic (great video) and Taylor Swift's 'Shake It Off' - a bunch of Swedes behind the latter too.

Ok let me set this straight. I'm not here to hate or something and I acknowledge the fact that Calum did an amazing cover, he's a fantastic vocalist. But Robyn's original version makes SO much sense. The melody you hear is not what the person singing the lyrics IS LISTENING, watching their lover not giving attention to them. When I hear this song I can figure it out. I'm in the corner of a disco. People are dancing to this song. I see among all those people, the person I love the most dancing, smiling, kissing, with another person. But you can't help to dance. It becomes cathartic. I just love the feeling this version gives to me.

i won't ever get tired of this song. the way the lyrics contrast the upbeat instrumentals/vocals makes this song much more empowering than calum scott's version. it doesn't retain the liberating aspect of this song that i love. this song, i think, is meant to be listened to, danced to, in order to release all the pain that the lyrics contain -- the anger, jealousy, and heartbreak of seeing someone you long for with someone else. though seemingly silly or "stupid," it's also so real and felt in all of us. personally, i don't really like calum scott's cover mainly because his invites you to dwell on the pain rather than the original which pushes you to be strong, move on, let ago, and not let the pain define you no matter how much it hurts.

@@TheBetterGamer Robyn has influenced some of the major pop records of the decade. Taylor Swift, Ariana, Lorde, Carly Rae Jepsen, they all took some inspiration for their albums. Max Martin, who used to work with Robyn, said that he often has pop stars coming to him saying that they want to make a record like Body Talk. You probably have never heard of Robyn, but a lot of artists have. And if you go back to the 90s, Britney Spears was first signed in a record label as an effort to create an "american Robyn", as she was already huge in Europe.

This is the low standard we have set in recent times.It is an enjoyable pop/dance song but lyrically it is somewhat silly, and musically it is very very basic. I would like to offer "Diamond Smiles" by the Boomtown Rats for your consideration. It's the most upbeat song about a girl who commits suicide, so could be sadder than this

Credit is where Credit is due! This is a masterpiece of a pop song by Robyn! Calum just took it to another level with his cover version, and it showcased his great vocals. He wouldn't be here without his inspiration from her. There are room for both versions. ❤
