Newly diagnosed. The best information yet, and coming from a registered dietician with reliable information is awesome! I already don't feel so overwhelmed now to become gluten free. Thank you Robyn and Tayler!

Just diagnosed as a silent celiac at age 69. Never would have known except my bone density improved with expensive meds and then, thinking all was normal and off the meds, fell drastically again. I felt like I was going crazy! Thankfully, my endocrinologist ran the right bloodwork, and my antibodies were off the chart. Endoscopy confirmed major damage. So, I’ve been gluten free now for about 5 weeks, referred to a dietitian but still waiting to hear from her. Researching myself (online, GF cookbooks) in the meantime. My GI doctor did take time to answer questions, and I do bloodwork again in 4 months, but it was reassuring to hear that others feel left to figure it out themselves, too. A book that has helped me is Celiac Disease Cookbook for the Newly Diagnosed by Rebecca Toutant., as there’s a chapter about setting up your kitchen. I’m also very interested in Tayler’s resources, so thank you!

It sounds like you are doing well. I just realized that other grains might be causing me problems…rice and corn and maybe dairy. Dr. Osborne author of “No Grain No Pain has some good points , but it is a little overwhelming finding more things not to eat. I was diagnosed at 62.

@@kimberlyferrier1312 good luck to you! It’s tough to completely flip your life upside down later in life. And because I am asymptomatic, I feel like I’m working in the dark. But I am a year into it now, and it’s getting a little easier. I did bloodwork again at one year, and my antibody number was close to zero, so that was reassuring.

One of the best information sessions on Celiac that I have seen. Taylor is very easy to listen to. Great questions Robyn asked. Thank you for collaboration and sharing.

I have learned that soy coats the small intestine and keeps them from absorbing nutrients and vitamins properly. So even if a product is marked GF many of them still contain soy.

Agree with lack of follow-up! After my diagnosis, I was completely on my own. Thank God I am internet savvy & love to do research. But not one single doctor, since then, has ever even asked about it!

Great interview even for someone diagnosed 15 years ago. I was a ‘silent celiac’ patient, no gi symptoms, but had 5 miscarriages which no doctor could explain. Learned later undiagnosed celiac can cause infertility. It’s been a long road to ‘freedom’ but is empowering to have knowledge for rebuilding health. Thanks for the good info.

Really great interview & very eye opening. After 10yrs just finding out about cross contact vs cross contamination. I think this may help explain why so many restaurants give the answer about being able to burn gluten off of food with high heats when cooking. Here I always thought they were a bunch of dummies not realizing but we were using the wrong terminology. No wonder there has been so much confusion when ppl try to eat out. 🤦♀️🤔

I called the GI doctor and requested a dietician, but haven't gotten an appointment yet. I was reading the mayo clinic website and learned the colitis I was diagnosed with in high school is also an autoimmune disease. I'm one of those people who never got anything beyond being handed a diet for the colitis and then never being told anything about it or if I had to have testing, etc. In my 20s I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia. Same deal, other than being told say goodbye to sugar. In my 30s, diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome and GERD and later being told to lower my salt intake, fat intake, and now recently diagnosed with lactose and fructose malabsorption and GERD again. My foods seem to be getting whittled away, but my shape hasn't changed too much. My girlfriend, who has a grandson with celiac told me that my heirloom cast iron skillets could be put into a self-cleaning oven and all the gluten could be baked off. Is that so, do you know? ❓❓❓

Doctors aren't even saying "go gluten free". Doctors here aren't even suggesting gluten. I am teaching myself about it by watching youtube and reading web sites. I think my son is "only" gluten intolerant at this point but I am also suspecting lactose. He is 53 years old. ALL the years he's lived with this... it does make me mad.

I was so sure I had celiac disease due to many of my symptoms are what many celiacs have. I was feeling better when I avoided gluten. I got my results back yesterday and it came up negative. Back to the drawing board!
@maureengilroy26582 жыл бұрын
Were you already avoiding gluten before being tested? You have to be consuming gluten for a period of time before being tested & throughout the testing process. If you aren't there is a good chance of getting a false negative.

....ahhhh...I'm so late to this party... just diagnosed 2 weeks ago... i love knowing accidental exposure doesn't completely undo everything...which leads me to the question- if i realise i just accidentslly ingested something glutinous and am one with light symptoms, how much damage is done if i go ahead and finish the dish?? Or have a few cookies, or cake, or pie, or pizza...?!

Lots of great tips even for someone who considers themselves a seasoned celiac. Thank you! Quinoa has saponins in it which is a phytochemical in the plant to help keep pests away. You might be allergic to that. I have read that if you rinse the quinoa for 30 minutes it should remove the saponins but I just stopped eating it 😊

I’m 43 & only found out a year ago why I was sick my entire life. I’m the only coeliac in my home. I’m the only coeliac at work. I feel so alone cause no one seems to understand. My joints still hurt , I feel so old cause my body still hurts. I know when I’ve been glutened cause I get violent vomiting 🤮 and bowel movements Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
@kimberlyferrier13123 ай бұрын
I just started having weird really painful joints. I found some gluten free battered fish that tasted great. I think the rice in the batter messed me up. Supposedly other grains like corn and regular rice can mess you up. Wild rice is ok to eat.

What tests do you need to get to confirm celiac disease?
@maureengilroy26582 жыл бұрын
For an initial diagnosis you have to be consuming gluten for testing. There is a blood test that is done & if that shows positive then an endoscope is done & biopsies are taken to look for damage in the small intestine. Don't stop eating gluten until all testing has been completed or you can get a false negative. Hope that helps.
@littlebitofhope1489 Жыл бұрын
In addition to the blood test and Endoscopy, they did a genetic test on me. I guess if you test positive in the blood test (as I did) but don't have the gene, they won't do the endoscopy because you can't have Celiac without the Gene. So for me it was Blood test to Gene test to Endoscopy to diagnosis.
