I found the video very helpful. While working on mine, I found using a flat file to take down the high spots on the body to correct the warping. It didn't take much but the high spots became very apparent at the points where the screws connect.

Over rich can be confused with flooding as well. The power valve is a function of vacuum. That will stick open an varnish up.

Needle seat was tight but I had turn a little tighter to eliminate small leak that was flooding fuel out of throttle shaft

How does one check the fuel pump pressure?
@imaginenonn372 жыл бұрын
So, would it normal for it to leak at the throttle shaft at the bottom, when i pull the throttle with the engine off? Ive been trying to figure out this leak, but it seems fine when the car is running. BUT when my engine is off and i pull the throttle it starts to leak at the shaft. Also, thanks for the video, i ordered my rebuild stuff from your site car runs really nice now.

I have a leak that started and I recently changed my fuel pump. If the pressure is to great, how would I remedy that? I'm really not flooding out though. I started finding small amount of fuel coming from the carb, but could never tell where it originated until 2 days ago. I was just looking at the carb under the hood and I worked the accelerator pedal from under the hood and saw a small amount of gas seep from the throttle body through a external brass plug for lack of a better term. It only seeps when the pedal is pushed. This was done with the engine off. Any ideas? BTW it's a Rochester single barrel type C. I have heard online that a few people have had this carb, but no one can find information on it. It looks identical to this B you're working on with a manual choke.

at what pressure should the fuel pump work for a rochester BC on a 235 chevy from 1955? i have a friend who caught fire in the engine compartment and we suspect that a flooding carb and an exhaust leak may be the cause. My carburator often leaks fuel badly, i think it due to loose rust from the bottom of the fuel tank makes it´s way to the carburetor and gets stuck between the seat and the needle. I have a paper fuel filter, but you can still find some sort of rust powder in the bottom of the fuel bowl. Anyway i would like to check the fuel pump pressure but i don´t know the recomended pressure for it.

I have a friend who owns a 2 ton Chevy truck with this carb. He says it will start fine if it's started every couple of days, but if it sits for a week it seems that the carb is empty, but he sees no leaks externally. Any ideas or things to look for?

@@MikesCarburetor thanks for these tips. I used to have gas smell problems, however not for a few years. It’s a G10 van with engine in a doghouse, therefor trapped heat when stopped. That’s not a problem now for some reason. When used daily or every couple days starting is quick, however after 1-2 weeks it takes some cranking to get gas with mechanical pump. Will study those suggestions some more and work on that. I use a 160 therm and tried two points for the temp gauge. The standard position in the cyl head just above the manifold will show 180 , up to 190 at traffic lights. Now have one located in the therm dome and it’s very stable at 170-175. Have switched to a digital gauge to monitor temp closely since I am installing AC. Any more tips, thanks Henry. Original owner, 1967.
