Sounds great! The quadrajet is probably one of the best designed 4 barrel carb out there. That's if it's in good tune and not worn out. They have been put on Chevy 305s. All the way up to 500 cu in Cadillac engines. Hell even Ford has used them. They installed them on their big badass 429 engines. And that was from the factory! One thing that GM got right! Along with the Turbo hydramatic 350 and 400 transmissions.

I wholeheartedly agree! Plus, I have a fantastic builder. This is VERY close to fuel injection. 😁

starts great! I've also a rochester on my 71 455HO Trans Am, but I made the choke manual. It opens better when "hot". Cheers from France

I would love to have that engine in a older pickup

G'day Brett, I was thinking about your last comment 4 wheel drum brake no assist, you would think such a thing would exist on a Stage 1 Buick GS. Otherwise tough idle for sure. Cheers Louis Kats from Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺 👍

That is how they were designed to work and they did on oh idk hundreds of thousands of cars and trucks flawlessly for many many years on everything from six cylinders to big blocks w only some internal modifications from rochester they came in two sizes 750 and 800 only till the 80s when they had different ones but the beauty of them is it only feeds what the engine calls for unlike a holley a holley you have to get a 650 or 750 or whatever the engine needs the good old q jet can be an 800 cfm on a 305 chevy and the air doors only open according to engine vacuum and give it only the amount of air and fuel needed the best all around carbs ever made hands down great fuel mileage on just rhe small primaries again holleys dont have that ability and they really let you know wjen you do open the secondaries unlike a yeah a holley square bore trash carburetor no jets or power valves to have to work on taking the bowls off and getting fuel alll over the intake manifold last q jet i ran i took off a 400 pontiac angine that had been sitting in a shed for 20 years i bolted it on and all i did was blow it off w compressed air inside and out get the cobwebs out lol started it up and did nothing even the accelerator pump worked flawlessly lets see a holley do all that lmao never in a gazillion years that 800 cfm carb ran the 305 just fine it far surpassed the holley i took off in every way mostly part throttle response that was the biggest noticeable difference at first so if im giving it less throttle to get moving then of course better fuel economy it woke up the engine compared to what was on. It for sure ive always beem a q jet guy and always will be had so many old pontiac and Oldsmobile chevy motors back in rhe day w them that rocked that moan in the night carried for miles my buddies always heard me coming for miles away Rochester engineers hit the nail on the head for sure w the good old q jet boys lol

Hey dude I was noticing that your pcv valve is not pushed down on the back of your intake manifold.

Oh you have Edelbrock heads too, I didn't know. Lovely car sadly my Quadrajet has some broken parts, mainly the chokesystem... so I moved to an Edelbrock AVS 650cfm. Runs decent, could have been the 750 or 850... but she runs great A bit high on Idle sadly... How high is your car idling?
@brettslater8722 ай бұрын
The heads are ported cast iron '70 Stage 1's. I'd love aluminum, though. The intake is an old Edelbrock B4B and high idle is usually around 1,300 rpm. Once it kicks down to the 2nd step (before base idle), it's right around 1,050 ish. Perfect for warm up.

@@brettslater872 Looks like the Idle on the Buick V8 is a little bit higher than on Chevy 454s.

@@YanniDesigns once warm, it idles around 850-900.
