Yes, this project is in its initial stages but in time I am sure it will lead to many improvements . In El Salvador it is the same story. Antiquated railroad system fell into disuse, yet the president Nayib Bukele has a vision of modernizing it as a key to making El Salvador the hub of economic activity in Central America. Glad to see that the trains are back in place. My stepfather was the chief civil engineer of railway tracks during the 70s. I hope that it becomes a permanent part of our transportation infrastructure. It was a great help to vendors along the south coast taking their produce to kingston.

As an older Jamaican, I have ridden on the older trains once. The experience was less than ideal, but I was still excited that we had a train. This one looks beautiful. I am hoping this service can be extended to other areas across the Island. Goooo Jamaica!

As a student in the 1960s Portland I had to go by bus in the morning, but in the evening I used to take the diesel train from Port Antonio to Buff Bay. It was just marvelous!

I remember riding these trains as kid from St James to Kingston. Was a scenic ride through the hills of St James and St Elizabeth. The numerous vendors at each stop acted as “Parish Ambassador” offer products unique to their parish. Favorite stop was the Balaclava stop for the Bammies. One of my first trips in Jamaica was the “Tourist Train” aka the Appleton Express with stops at Catadupa, Ipswich Caves and finally Appleton Estate.

Problem with investing in the trains is that not enough people to use it for investors to get their money back .it would cost millions of dollars its a huge operation to run the service population of ja is too low for that sort of investment

Jamaica has the oldest railroad system in the Western Hemisphere and am happy that it’s back in operation. One of my most memorable childhood memories is riding the train from Mobay into Kingston. The padded seats were first class back in the day. Please do a video on the history.

The USA and Canada had trains before Jamaica. However, Jamaica was the first British West Indian colony to have a rail system. Cuba had a short rail system but it was a Spanish possession. India's rail system was after Jamaica's.

Hi Rochielin, as one of your "older" 😊 Jamaicans, (but not too old), I rode the train from Mo Bay to Kingston to visit my Grandfather and I used to love it🇯🇲🚃🚃. I memorized all of the stops along the way, it was fun, you got to see the countryside and all kinds of people riding the train not just students. You have brought back fond memories for me riding the train/diesel. Train Portland to Kingston. Portland to May Pen. The carts were never this empty. Vendors had their goods and people going on holiday had their dulcimener. Vendors sold peanuts and popcorn. Those tunnels were dark. I can say that I truly enjoyed riding the train. The turntable is still in Port Antonio. The engine was turned on this. This allowed for the engine to turn in the direction from which it was coming... It couldn't turn like a car or bus, limited land space. Thanks for this one😁😁👍

This is very interesting. I use to travel on the train from Gregory Park to Kingston in the eighties. The trains use to be packed! Passengers had to stand because they seats were all taken. The trains were very fast. We reachon time.I think Jamaicans like the train! It's very comfortable and relaxing. Some people take naps on the train.

@@amtraklover My mom said she was supposed to go on this trip to Kendal in Manchester. Her then boyfriend told her not to go as her dress wasn’t appropriate. She was pregnant with her first child. She said she obeyed and she’s alive today. Many times as children she would say listen to me , because I listened I am alive today. She said many died including people from the yard she lived in In Kingston Jamaica. She said the lived before Madden Funeral Home at that time. She said dead bodies were scattered on the ground. Sorry for being so graphic, but I never forget that. My brother was born in 58. Have a great day!

Railways are the most efficient land transportation system. But the best part is that it is a lot of fun to ride trains. Really happy that the Jamaican government has revitalised the railway. Wow, this brings back fun memories, I am now 70 years old, borne and grow up in Clarendon and my parents was from St. James, every year after school closes for six weeks our mother would take us to see our grandparents so we would take the train from May Pen to Montgomery Bay. The best part is the many vendors that sells pepper shrimps, different types of biscuits, different type of sodas and different type of bag fruits on the train.

So happy to see the revitalization of the railway system up and running at home.. The public transportation system in Canada consist of the GO train, TTC (subway), AMtrack & Via Rail. When I was just going to high school I took the train from downtown Kingston to Angles in St Catherine. It was a relatively smooth ride then. The only problem was the long wait at the various stops but was really effective especially in comparison to travelling in the bus. Bus rides then people were sandwiched together in tight rows. Train cabins were full but not as tightly packed as the buses. Good that they are trying to renew the service.

It looks pretty decent for being an old train. This is a good look. I was always fascinated by the bauxite trains but I’m not old enough to have experienced a Jamaican passenger train. I hope they properly maintain it. Really nice video. Can someone please donate a new modern train for this project. These are the situations in which I imagine being a philanthropist.

Living in Linstead as a young boy, I remember a bustling train system between Spanish Town and Linstead and available to the general public, and highly used by school children. My older brothers included. My fun was hopping on and off the train while it maneuvered in station to switch lines or add cars. At that time, I lived very close to the Linstead station on Fletchers Avenue.

Then this nice eee. The older trains are going to have that section between the carts but there is value in having older trains in operation even if the system become modernize to having electric powered ones. I live in Japan that arguable has the best train system in the world and you still see older trains in operation everywhere is just that they are options available depending on how fast or how affordable you want to travel. I wish that the government can build a rail system of integrity as it will be of great value to the Jamaican people

I am happy that the train is back on track. It is a cheaper mode of transportation. I used to travel on the train from Appleton to Kingston. I wish the whole line from Kingston to Montego Bay will soon be reopened. Just a few students were on the train so I think they could include other passengers.

I can't remember which youtuber it was you showcased tracks in Jamaica and I was shocked. I had no idea Jamaica used trains. I wanted to know at the time what the tracks were used for and no one responded. Your vid came in my recommended and you've answered my question. Amazing! I was born in Jamaica in 1957 and traveled as a child many times to Kingston from Trelawny on those buses that take a whole day. Never ever saw a JRC passenger train my life. We all heard stories about that horrific crash in 1957 a few months after I was born. Having never seen a passenger railway train I assumed it had stopped running after the crash. I googled it and found out that The Jamaica Railway, constructed in 1845, was the first line opened to traffic outside Europe and North America, and it ran until 1992!!! I would love to be able to get on it someday, so I hope they continue to develop it. Traffic jams in Jamaica are the worst.

Wow this is amazing I remember as a child when I was younger me and my mother took it from Clarendon to Kingston before it came out of operation but this is awesome, i really hope Jamaica keep it up and get some better trains and carts because I think it would be faster and less traffic and more safer also it also would be nice if they can do fraight also I am proud of Jamaica for there effort I wish it can be like the ones we have in New York to take people to and from work and have also undercover cops in each carts along with cameras help with crime because that will follow

Rochielin, Thank you very much for this tour. I enjoyed it. I left Jamaica when I was 10 years old but I heard that there used to be a rail system a long time ago in Jamaica. I also heard about the kendal Crash that happened some years before I was born. Every worthwhile thing has to start somewhere and this is worth it. There has certainly been more car traffic in Jamaica since I was a child, therefore It would be a plus for them to expand the system again nationwide. It would be a nice ride to go from Kingston to Montego Bay and see the scenery.

I live in England and remember on my first trip to Jamaica in 1976 riding the train several times from Mobay to I think Four Paths when going to see my Grandfather. My husband is Jamaican and he has never ridden the train so I hope they put it back into service for all so he can have this experience in his own country.

When i was little in the 1970ties, we went to St Mary and when we coming back to Kingston we took the train. It was a nice experience. I think it would be good to improve and expand the railroad around the island.

I went on this train twice, before Covid, when they were using if for school trips from Spanish Town to Linstead (I wasn't a student, I used to work with 2 schools that went on the trip) It was a fun experience, the seats were comfortable, the students loved it, I talked to couple of the drivers and learned a lot about how the train works, and the history of it. I met a man who was driving trains in Jamaica for 40 years, he had so many stories.

I rode the train and diesel from Kingston to Siloah, St Elizabeth. The last time when I visited Jamaica from the US was in 1971 and took the Diesel because it was quicker. Did not have many cars on the roads so it was train or country bus.

I remember walking from South Camp road after school to the train station with my friend Michelle Campbell. She would get on the train to Old Harbour. I took the train only once to Mobay . We left Kingston at 8.30am and arrived at 2.30pm. The train stopped a lot but I enjoyed the ride . The stations were beautiful and had venders selling fresh fruits . I particularly love the station at Porus Manchester. There were venders with bags of fruits , some of the biggest star apple I've ever seen. I was with my friends Elaine and Marion from school and Elaine's cousin Sandy. That was the last day of school. I haven't seen them ever again after we returned to Kingston but I'm glad I have the memory of riding the train. I hope the government and the private sector can come together and expand the rail system island wide.

I rode the train from Kingston to Montego many times. These trips were always adventurous to me. Every stop there was always vendors selling something.

Excellent coverage, young lady! I do hope this will be like in the past when the railroad was operational from Kingston to Mobay! I used to ride the train from Spanish Town to Mile Gully in Manchester when I was at UTECH (CAST). This is a brilliant move by the Jamaican Government to bring back the JRC. This will help to revitalize the islands transportation systems and communities. It's also helpful for the school children, higglers etc. Tourism will also find this an amazing experience, exploring the beautiful country sides etc. Please, please bring this back on a large scale, all the way to Mobay via Mile Gully.

Nice. Actually, transforming all that into a light rapid "battery" electric rail transit system would be beneficial. Solar, wind, and geothermal energy would provide recharging power at stations as needed. The tracks between cities could be elevated and upgraded for higher speeds. Some trains might even transport goods, ferry trucks, etc. between regions. Local taxes and buses and bicycles become local transportation.

Happy to see the beginning of the railway service .. Thanks for taking us on the experience. 👍🏾😄 The children and passengers are really Not allowed to move through coaches whilst the train is moving. Persons embark at each stop and and whilst stationary , get seated . Only when it stops such movement is allowed. The conductor is the only person that's allowed and should have not encourage you or anybody to do this very dangerous manoeuvring . He could get into trouble with his employment if it's known to management. Careless man !

It is a great feeling to see the train operating again, i dont mind the colour though. Can you imagine connecting to the 14 parishes in Jamaica, park your car at the station and board the train to your destination. People can look forward to getting work at the train station, there is a lot of land available out of Kingston to do businesses and make house but it can be very tired driving to the different parishes. I would love if the Government could least the line, if they cant maintain it. Thanks for the video information. We welcome train network in Jamaica its technology age.

In 1978 i rode the train from Montpelier to Kingston. It was a wonderful experience as you get a very good view of the country. In those days persons would sell bammy/sprat and sky juice for the entire journey. Also, it was very safe.

In the early 80 my mother put my sister and I on train in May Pen we switched trains in Spanish town. Our family picked us up in Buff bay Portland for summer holidays.

Im telling you I wouldn’t switch coaches while moving lol. But honestly I was excited when the train was announced, I think it’s a good idea for the kids. Easier form of transportation for them and safer. Thank you for showing this, even if it’s slower or the same speed as the car, it’s safer, able to carry more people so that in the long run will make it cheaper and more effective.

Good job young lady. As a kc student in the 70's, I use to take the train to Mobay every week for a year. There also use to be a train to St Thomas and Portland. As the bredren said the train stopped in all parishes on the way to mobay. There was also a market train which stopped in Coronation Market on Thursdays. Back then you could experience a good deal of the rural areas by taking the trains. I still remember shrimps in St Elizabeth, orange and tangerines in Manchester, Clarendon. Wow those were heady times. I would love to see trains back but with modern amenities and more lines across the country. Thanks much little sis
