Its not only maroons. There were others who didn't even get touched by the colonists. Parotee are 1 of them. An omitted people who like the arawak are part and parcel of the Americas. These were original negros but the generations from say about 90s and younger have almost little to no knowledge of these people.

Great interview. One small correction the song at 1:31,min is actually a Kenyan song by Daudi Kabaka sung in Kiswahili and not Twi. The title is Harambee Harambee full lyrics and translation can be found on Google and I believe here on KZbin as well.

This information is invaluable 😍 you are doing a magnificent job. Keep going strong & true. I do have a couple of questions Dan mentioned that most maroons are now born in Jamaica 🇯🇲 so is it possible to have dual citizenship in Cockpit County & Jamaica? Can it be done without feeling somewhat compromised or conflicted?

Watching this 4-part series from Barbados, thanks for this Rochielin! It may be way too late to have questions but I am so curious as a cultural studies student about some cultural practices - What rituals, indigenous festivals other than January 6th, social norms etc make up the culture? If you ever go back I'd love to see that. But I know that it may be that these are kept secret to protect them which is what the ancestors did. About to watch the other 2-part Maroon series so perhaps more is there too. Blessings.

Truth. Truth. Jamaica future-wealth development is tied up with the maroons. The loophole we have as a people to develop as a true independent nation lies in the freedom the maroons carved out. There is so much to gain in working with them in unity.

Ouite a few people are challenging the sovereignty of the Maroons, but as Daniel rightly said, indigenous rights of the Maroons are rights that can help all Jamaicans to rise to their highest potential. Also, if the sovereignty of the Maroons were not in place, the natural resources such as water, forrestry, medicinal herbs, precious mineral, and wild life would be left unprotected for off-shore entities to exploit. Hence , mining would destroy the water shed, weather system, and other environmental factors that are not replaceable I would have liked to hear Daniel's point of view on the idea of ecotourism because I feel that this type of initiative would be a sustainable venture that would generate income capital for maroons and all Jamaicans. Ecotourism would also help to build the infrastructure of the territory and to preserve the culture of the Maroons

If he wants to he can also travel to Nova Scotia Canada then to Sierra Leone. Remember when the Jamaican government kicked maroons out of the city and sent them the NOVA Scotia.. We have treaties with Natives in Canada Many are eastern Metis. I am eastern Metis were an extension. Only thing we don't have native head dresses. Would be nice.
