The Guardian just ran a story by a close friend of Sinead O'Connor. She loved Father Ted and loved this rendition of her.

John Brice's poignant article in the Guardian about Sinead O Connor brought me here. Have watched this episode so many times in the past and it always reminded me of Sinead. Knowing that this was one of her favourite Father Ted episodes, that she loved watching Father Ted on Fridays after a take out curry, cold beers & a bag of sweets makes it even more special. RIP Sinead. May you find the peace and happiness that you always longed for. 💙 31/7/2023.

shes exactly same character as Kristine Kochanski. Movement and voice, what range!
@JohnBloggs-m8l8 ай бұрын
Um Kristine Kochanski wasn't Irish she was originally Scottish cos Clare Grogan is Scottish nor would she have cared about meat so no this character is nothing like Kochanski at all.

Is Niamh Connelly Claire Grogan who played Christine Kochanski from the first episode of Red Dwarf?

The character, Niamh Connelly is a parody of Sinéad O'Connor. I wonder if Claire Grogan who played Niamh Connelly is anything likes Sinéad O'Connor in real life.

One of my favourite lines is in the singer's rant and Ted's reaction, 1:09, - "... and the pope closed down a lot of the factories that were _making_ the potatos and turned them into prisons for children". - "God almighty, she says that as if there's something sinister about it!"

The weirdly destructive organizer of the Lovely Girls competition is one of the very few jokes in Father Ted that I've always felt falls a little flat.

Flat or not, there's people very much like that. They are, if not funny, very infuriating.

Theyre all stereotypes of the kinds of priests or people either Lineham or Matthews wouldve known, this one would fit the stereotype of one of those guys whose forever passing assesment on the durability of objects and asking about their value and how theyre not worth whatever price is given, normally people like that just comment but this is a comedy so they just turn it up to have him personally actively trying to destroy stuff and there you have it. How to write comedy, take something in real life then take it to its extreme.

Ballykisangel to Dr. Who, too... Ms. Dervla has played it all so well.
@Vesnicie2 жыл бұрын
Not in this episode. Dervla Kirwan does make a cameo appearance in a dream sequence in the episode "A Christmassy Ted" as Assumpta Fitzgerald from Ballykissangel. But the woman in this one is Claire Grogan. They do look a bit alike come to think of it.
@billmcdonnell792 жыл бұрын
The character, Niamh Connelly (played by Claire Grogan) must be a vegetarian and an animal rights activist as well. I'm a vegetarian too, for over 17 years, especially I'm against animal cruelty and abuse.
