I'm pretty sure. The live versions are much more compartmentalized, they break down into several very distinct sections while the studio version is wilder. Now that I think about it it's actually a pretty tricky solo to improvise in. There is a lot of room to play but there are a few very distinct flags you've gotta hit that make the solo recognizeable (the scramble and big bend at the beginning, the slide up from the 5th to 10th position, the bends at the 15th, etc) and it's not to get tripped up if you don't make sure your licks fit perfectly into their places (it certainly happened to Page). No matter what it's usually pretty awesome, your take included.

And I think you make great points here, the studio version is sooooo badass, underpinned by the greatest rhythm section on the planet, all on complete FIRE. *Real* musicians forged from countless studio sessions prior to LZ and hardcore gigging in what could be a rough and unforgiving environment.
