how do you hit the trills in the solo? they feel so broken to me and I don't know how to hit them. I always break combo at the beginning of them and at the end. is strumming the trills manually the only way to prevent combo losses?

Super late, but trill lanes, and strum lanes for that matter, are notoriously bad in RB3, if you're consistently miss in the beginning and end spots, strumming in those spots probably is the better option.

They are trill lanes, you play them holding down the lower note, and tapping the higher note roughly in time (doesn't have to be as precise as the normal notes).
