One of the great mysteries in life is why sooo many more people (even some who think of themselves as rock experts) do not know and sing the praises of this extraordinary band. 🤩
@GetRidOfCivilAssetForfeiture7 ай бұрын
My thoughts exactly, especially since a David Bowie praised them so highly, as did the GoGo’s, the Bangles and the Runaways.

Well, i love their music, their vocals and the visual style of the band (for the time being what it was). Great musicians, and as a guitarist, i can appreciate June's solos. HOWEVER, the band's name was kind of "cheesy". I am sure FANNY (a slang term for a woman's behind) was thought of as a clever, tongue-in-cheek, fun band name for an all-woman band, "BUTT", for me, it sounds cheesy. Like, four guys in a band calling themselves DICK, BICEP, The Barbells, or The Condoms or any other cheesy manly name we can think of. The name "Fanny" for an all-woman band sounds "to me" in my opinion, like a parody band. Even that band of four acapella singers calling themselves, The Nylons used a cheesy name. When i heard of four guys called The Nylons, i immediately thought, "Oh no! Guys wearing nylons." I saw The Nylons backing Hall And Oates at the Montreal Forum in '83, I had no choice but to watch them. I liked what i heard, and they were not wearing nylons, but i assumed they were gay (or at least crossdresses) based on the band's name, which at the time back in the '80s with the whole AIDS things starting to be mentioned in the mainstream was a nono. I still bought their debut album and i still have it but i always felt a bit funny showing friends the album cover because of the name The Nylons. So, in closing. i think "Fanny" was not the best band name for such a serious band and the name could have hindered their success to some degree. I could be totally wrong and say they didn't become famous because their music sucked, but that was not the case. Back in the 70s, when i was a kid, i knew about all the popular bands of the time but i never once heard of Fanny. I only discovered Fanny in the 2000s when i stumbled across that studio gig that's on the net, and i asked myself "Why hadn't i ever heard of this band before?" Then, i saw the name "Fanny" and i thought, "Oh, that's why". To go a bit further, Fanny, for an all-woman band is as cheesy as calling the band, you know?...Pussy. Cartooned Josee and the Pussycats was a sort of a cool name for a girl band. But, they did wear cat suits and cat ears to look like "cats". "Fanny" just sounds, to me, like such a silly band name for such a serious band. I've read that the keyboard player moved on and played with Joe Cocker and others. Anyway, there's my two cents.

@@robbiedaug Well, it is a whole complicated thing about the name...when they went to Europe, they found out the slang problem was even worse. But if the record label had really marketed them as serious musicians, it might have gone differently. What's in a name? I dunno. But I do know it's a damn shame that more people know The Butthole Surfers than know Fanny.

It felt great. And, it was just below the Apple offices, so the first day we went in to check it out, we went upstairs and met George and Ringo! They just happened to be there ~ and they gave us all Apple watches. (stupid me, I gave mine away about a week or two later ... godalmighty!!:)) xx
