I am sad for Kei. spoiler warning just in case XD she ends up loving kiyo, but in the end he will break up with her, it is already being seen that he is cutting off relations with the others by the time he joins another class. After all, he said himself to nagumo that he doesn't care if kei is expelled. As kiyo said, for him, those who have a loose screw are those who are carried away by emotions.

SPOILER As someone who has read up to the latest volume available (2Y7V), don’t spread your interpretations as facts. That discussion with nagumo where he states that ‘he wouldn't care if key gets expelled’ he himself in the same paragraph said that nagumo should of realized by now that he was bluffing hiding how he really feels, and so continued to tell him what he knew nagumo wouldn’t expect to hear from him, as in him not caring what happens to key, in order to manipulate him, which he did in the end. And that is not even my personal interpretation, it was what was said, he did later on too admit that when faced with some situation you have to let go of loved ones to protect yourself, but that was not in direct context with the nagumo discussion prior but in general. We as reader know that koji sometimes act with the white room persona and even ‘lie’ to us in his monologues, because conflicted between what he wants and needs. And that happens every time when it come to key, every time she is concerned, he is always aware of wanting something and knowing that with who he is, maybe they wouldn’t be able to have what they want and maybe they will. The author did an amazing job developing them throughout the novels, they are not that different and even koji realized it early on, ‘those with darkness inside are drawn together’ Do all of that means that they will continue with no struggle or setbacks? no , because this is cote. But with each characters developments, their relationship progress throughout from tool to now, koji detaching himself from the robotic white room persona, admitting his mistakes , becoming more humain, admitting multiple times that ‘she became an irreplaceable person to him before he even knew it’ and this is the mastermind koji speaking in his own mind. The author is anything but dumb, he planned everything way to perfectly for it not to mean something bigger in the end, because again this is cote.
