What a message about God's truth on Grace. Thank you, Pastor Tullian. I wonder if you preached this message before or after you have started your extra-marital relationship. If it is after it, then you may be running the risk of giving yourself excuses for your behaviour...which Apostle Paul has been trying to admonish us in Romans 6. I do pray and hope that you truly repent and willing to be restored although it would be a long long journey... Be a King David or Apostle Peter rather than KIng Saul or Judah!

Oh please. The church has imploded because of the legalism and moralism that is so prevalent over the past century and a half. Loosey what? Oh brother. If there's one thing Tullian and others do not preach is an easy grace. This has transformed my life. Not into anything that you are referring to but it is the life changing gospel that people need to hear.

It is finished refers to Jesus fulfilling HIS part. We still have our part. There are so many, many scriptures that essentially say "How can you call me Lord and do not do what I say." Somehow Tullian understands this to mean we don't have to obey, it's too exhausting. Grace gives us the license to be lukewarm.

Huh? How is not being lukewarm and not ignoring Jesus' words "How can you call me Lord and do not do as I say?" WORKING FOR ME? Just fine. I no longer feel like a hypocrite and like I'm playing games with Jesus. It is an amazing feeling knowing you abide in Christ and your heart's desire is to obey--not pretend to but actually obey Jesus. Lukewarm never had that effect on me.

If you think grace causes "lukewarm" obviously you haven't read, he who has been forgiven much loves much. Obeying God, is believing in Christ. Knowing you actually are a law breaker. Heb 3 tells us disobedience IS unbelief. We do not count on our own righteousness, we count on Christ's alone. Those who don't are called the lawless ones. That's exactly the point made in Matt 5.

It's illogical to read my post and understand it to mean grace causes lukewarmness. I agree with you Chase, obedience is believing but with the hypergrace teaching there is no law for you to break that would make you disobedient or not believing. That is my point. What does Tulian teach that we need to obey in order to have a valid saving faith? Also no one is saying that our own righteousness has any capacity to save us. If you read what I have posted this would be obvious.

jblglw hypergrace? Its a simple solution Rom 11 6 But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace. Eph 2 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved- The point is This is God's work in us. We already stand condemned as law breakers. Romans 3: 19-20. Obedience to Christ is this 1 John 3:23.

You people have made my point by saying things that Tullian would say. Obedience is understood as works and meriting grace by the misguided. Paul is rolling in his grave. Why do Christians who claim they know something about grace confuse Paul's work analogy of meriting righteousness by observing the Old Covenant Law with obedience to God and His spirit that indwells the new covenant believer. Paul clearly says that if you live according to the body flesh you will die but if you put to death the misdeeds of the body by the Spirit you will live. This is Paul in the 8th chapter of Romans talking about what true grace is and our part under the new covenant. It is amazing that Tullian and the commenters here confuse Paul's clear teaching.with "works"!!!???? You know nothing! I can only shake my head when I see misguided Christians quote passages that have to do with Paul addressing the concerns he had about the 1st century church and the Jewish Christians who were trying to make the gentile converts obey the observances of the Old Covenant Law (the shadow) when they had the substance living in them. If you notice what plagues the hypergrace churches. as pastors and former members lament is the belief among many converts that they don't have to live holy and have very little concern about obeying Jesus. Any wonder when the stars of hypergrace either straight out say or just imply that they don't have to obrey---just like the commenters on this thread. Just read these and ask if there is any reason why they might feel any obligation to be obedient. If you say obedience they come out in full attack mode Future teeth gnashers?? I People who know nothing about faith, grace and the gospel, but think they do, equate Paul's teaching about works of the Old Covenant with New Covenant obedience. .

Grace does not give you a right to sin, when you give your life to the Lord, yes your past sins are forgiven, that doesn't mean what sins you do after that is okay, it sound like the church had to bring it out, so has he stopped because he was found out? Has he really ask for forgiven to God, Only God knows that. Sad he let this happen, when he is to lead others. Will be praying for him and the ones that follower him.

He or she that has no sin, cast the first stone. Why is it instead of doing what the bible says to do which is to help and cover our brothers and sisters, to love them, we judge them. I am not saying what happend was right but if anyone here can actually say they have lived one day without sinning then we should all pray for ya because he that says he is without sin does not have the truth in them. We need to be offering our Love and the Grace of GOD to people. Not calling them a false convert. Paul didn't even do that to the man that was in a relationship with his fathers wife. He instructed him to be reinstated but never ever did he accuse him of being false. Please brothers and sisters we never judge a person only sin. We are not GOD. I guess David who is a man after GOD'S own heart must have been false because he did much much worse. GOD bless

TT exhausts me. Begins with claiming TT is brilliant and boasts of him being B Graham's grandson (which he himself was doing while still a student at RTS and you would never do if he understood the theology of the cross in 1 Cor 1-4). TT talks about how nice San Diego is and then gives a shpeal about his last name and then, of course, promotes his book. Then reads Scripture while walking around and prays while making hand gestures. Sincere public prayer is reverent and does not allow you to move your hands around while everyone's eyes are supposed to be closed (TT was playing to the camera!). C'mon, wake up - this is an act, a complete show - he's just trying to build his empire. You can identify a gimmick when someone has one topic and manipulates Scripture and ignores other passages which contradict his man-centered agenda. His slander of DA Carson exposed the negligence of his cheap grace piety, shallow view of sin and proved that he should not be in the ministry (1 Tim 3). The PCA is so disappointing for admitting him to the ministry from his former non-reformed denomination.

Stan Miller T got the basics of law/gospel from Michael Horton and Scott Clark and in recent times, J Bridges was expounding it before them. What you said is true but there is much that T does not bring out and that is part of what is so harmful. When Jesus said to 'not judge' in Matt 7, he was saying to not judge hypocritically; he was not simply saying to 'not judge' (look at the context and you'll see that). In 1 Cor 12 Paul mentions a gift - discernment of spirits. This work of the Spirit in one is specifically the wisdom to judge people in order to protect the church from error and false teachers. I think we see Paul exercising this gift in Acts 20:28-30. The apostles display much judging throughout their NT letters (esp. Timothy, Titus, 1 Jn, Jude, 2 Peter).

Stan Miller It's not about us agreeing on pastors and their methods - as if our wisdom and wills were the determining factors - but about all of us believing and submitting to the authority of the word with respect to what the Lord has said about the ministry. A serious problem is that T says he's reformed but his ministry practices, remarks expressing his thinking, and handling of Scripture contradict that. You're much better off to read J Bridges whom God has graced with reverence and maturity.
