Thanks for your video! Especially 2 and 3 I often forget. My method to learn to climb more efficient is to climb a route more often, best without a break. Not only you train constant movement with not breaks for thinking, also your muscles get weeker you‘ll climb more efficient and faster automatically.

Yeah, I've just gotten to the stage where this is becoming more important for top rope climbing in the gym. I get too tired when I climb and then there's an overhang. It's really important to stay efficient.

I use to grip to hard and now I try to to grip harder than i need to. I did that a lot when belaying a climber. I would use a death grip. Now i am easing up and trying to just use only what I need to. Thanks for all the helpful info!

Regarding the backstep, I've never heard it called that. Though admittedly I'm not fully versed in climbing vernacular. I'm currently coaching my girlfriend and in instances that you would call backstepping, I tell her to 'torque' left or right.

Backstep is very suggestive tho if you keep an open leg with more flexibility it is also possible its just a preference

If the foothold is closer, open leg might be better. But if it’s far away like what I demonstrated, back step is for sure better.

backstep is what a lot of boulder climbers call a knee drop right?
