What would you say the moon board is good for? I found out i suck on them but i've done problems around the same grade or higher in the gym

In my opinion it helps grip strength and pulling on small holds. Also, being really tough on your skin. It definitely feels like a very specific type of targeted training to me. The social aspect of sharing routes and watching others climb the same exact routes is really cool to me too.

I️t makes you strong like normal gym climbing on jugs of the same grade won’t I’d say if you can moonboard v4 you can outdoor v4 forsure but if you can only usual gym v4 you will struggle much more outside

hyau23 it’s overhung at 40 so it will emphasize more power and more contact strength. So pretty much what BoulderingVlog said. You can train balance on slab; core/power on more overhung stuff. Cheers

Jesus those moonboards look expensive. I guess its cheaper to use wood than using the steel kit from the website though?

George, the hold set came at a discount if you got the original, A, and B. There was no import tax so it came out to be better than expected. The wood framing actually flexes less than the steel kit I checked out at Red Rock Climbing center because of more internal bracing. The plywood also matters depending on cheaper, softer pine versus hardwoods like Russian birch.

That is a pretty impressive build! I am sure with the ease of access a persons strength climbing would improve quickly. I am going to boulder at Great Falls over here on the east coast after this deep freeze relinquishes. I heard that there are some pretty sweet spots there, I just need to either find someone that knows their way or read up on some good starter boulders. Any tips for a first time bouldering trip?

tips... hmmmm maybe try to map the stuff out on the google maps app (you can leave icons on the boulders). Also turn on offline maps just in case service drops. Other than that, just have fun and be really patient. We get lost and confused all the time when we go outside.

Thanks for the tip, I am really excited to get outside and boulder! I’ll let you know how it goes!
