@@chuckdejesusI just watched a podcast with Profo Won with oldheads in NYC that said the same thing, and they were also trying to make a timeline on the thing to make sure what was the proper term for it since there are some who claim it to be called Burning. Comment sections were filled with super OGs who discussed the topic. Apparently, the original dancers were called Burners since they would do the burns on the floor and they didn't really have a name for it and there was no form or structure just pure raw movement and was first associated as a gang dance. Then gangs faded out, and Outlaws came about and they came up with the structure for the dance, like the step, burn, jerk jerk, down and they coined it Rocking/Up Rocking and i guess iirc they said in the comment section that it was around the time when Kool Herc started to make the first break beats. That comment section was filled with knowledge and it was a great thing to read. They kinda agreed on the timeline where it's unstructured form, the one they called Burning/Burners was around mid to late 60s going into early 70s. Then Outlaws made the structure which is what the coin as Rocking at mid to late 70s going into early 80s. Then it became Breaking after and well, the rest is what we know now. It was so fascinsting to read. I've been getting into Rocking recently and i'm learning the deeper roots of Breaking. I already knew that Rocksteady and NYC Breakers weren't the first Bboys (more like 3rd or 4th gen apparently). But it's cool that the generations before them, the OG Burners and Rockers, let them have that credit as the first Bboys, for doing something new with the dance (apparently the spending more time on the floor than standing up is what constituded this distinction despite the fact that there were Rockers who did spend some time on the floor too). I learned recently that Rocking is a completely different culture to modern breaking. There is still alot of gaps in what i know but i really would like to find out what caused the NYC Breakers and Rocksteady to create the footwork and powermoves. Like what inspired them to spend more time on the floor. So going by the timeline they laid out, you're completely right. Much respect sir. Peace and love to you.

WHOA SO THIS IS THE WEIRD DANCE THAT ZYZZ USED TO DO!!!!
This Rocking, was what followed after a movement they called Burning. Burning came first, it was alot messier and all about the burns like the stabbing, slashing, shooting motions and was a dance primarily associated with gangs. Then it was given a proper structure, done by the Outlaws which they then called Rocking, they mainly stayed on top, but some would incorporate moves that were spending more time on the ground and this footwork motions were what inspired what came next. After Rocking, the NYC Breakers and Rocksteaddy crew came along and put even more emphasis to the go down and footwork, spending more time on the ground than standing, and this was then called Breaking/Bboying. You could say this was the dance they were doing when Kool Herc was creating the first break beats. They did this as a anti-culture to Disco and it took off and became what is now known today as Bboying. They did this dancing to songs from James Brown, Increadible Bongo Band and such. So they were doing this even before the first Rap song became a thing. So i guess yeah. Since Burning was a gang dance, this was definitely "the first" Crip Walk. Basically this is THE grandfather of all the dances of Hip-Hop. THE original Hip-Hop dance. It's not tied as one of the 4 elements of Hip-Hop; Bboying/Breaking, MCing/Rapping, DJing/Turntablism and Graffiti/Wall Bombing. I'm only guessing because they considered Breaking to be it's final form. Edit: However, all this was exclusively an East Coast thing. I say this to give credit to tge guys that created the Crip Walk. LA wanted their own thing, so they made their own thing. Create to inspire afterall. Peace and love man.
