1:56 So true! I went to a drum camp with Benny Greb and Steve Smith last year and at one point Benny said something I’ll never forget - “If you’re bored, you’re not focused enough”. I try to remind myself of that quote every time I sit behind a kit or a pad. This concept is the key to practice efficiency and respect for the music in my opinion.

So great . I’ve played for over 50 years & everything said here by Rick is important . Burying the beater will also cause injury. I had to change my technique years ago . Btw though we banned the word “ kick” Rick 😆. We know where I came from 👷‍♂️ 😂

Realistic rock is a fantastic book. All my students learn this book first! It's the gold standard, in my opinion. Also Jim Chapins book and Gary Chester new breed which scares half my students. How about Gary Chaffee linear time playing? Love your playing, wisdom and education Rick 👏

Rick, I noted at 5:52 that you have your hi hats set up with an "underbite" suggesting that you have your tilter screw oriented to the back side. Any reason for this? I always do it the other way, feel like it saves my sticks a little bit. Perhaps I am doing it wrong?

The tilter is oriented to the left side.

Great video and advice! I have the same kit. Pinstripes on top and original Aquarians on bottom. What heads are you using on the bottom? Mine sound good, but yours sound amazing!! I still have extra hardware , lugs, inserts etc if you ever need any. Please send us more videos! Thomas, Mississippi.
