Kind of morbid but I wonder what percentage of the people in Rock's Rolodex are still alive? Even dear old Doris Day, who lived close to 100, is now gone! Life is short - you heard it here first!

Bob Garren, Southeast Florist in Huntington Park was a florist to several A-list stars. His husband was the head of one of the major hospitals in Los Angeles. Rock was a regular guest at their huge Spanish home that was built in 1927 at 2405 Glendower, Los Feliz. 3 acres of jungle gardens and a custom-built bathhouse next to the pool. Dozens of gay porn films were made there. We would sit the house when Bob and the Dr. were out of town. I would sit and page through their personal photo albums amazed at all the gay celebrities that were their friends. Bobs other clients were Elizabeth Tayor and Peggy Lee and Dina Shore. Their estate is next door to the house that Michael Feinstein just sold for 7 million.

@Lasuvidaboy Thanks for the memory jog, I vaguely remember the name Peckerwood Estate, I think that was also the name of the plantation in the musical Mame and something has been telling me that the owners had at one time invested money in the stage or movie. I don't remember anything of the Rock Hudson furniture but I did have dinner at the Walt Disney dining room table and chairs one night. The gardens were so special especially the lower garage with the glass pyramid-shaped roof with the tiled fountain that spilled between the cars stalls. Truly a home you would expect to find Norma Desmond drinking champagne. I don't know if the same two guys still own it, I moved away and lost contact.

Thanks Scott. I remember Rolodex. After watching this I feel like getting one again. So much easier to list numbers and have them handy instead of loading up the cell phone! Loved the video . Wish you did them more often. I really look forward to hearing your stories. Thanks again take care and can’t wait for part two!

Agreed, a rolodex is SO much better for storing and retrieving contacts than a mere phone! You can't scribble little memory jogger notes about the person on your cellphone, like you can on rolodex cards! As a TV celebrity booker in London, my rolodex was my fortune - I took it with me to every freelance TV guest booking job I did, it was my personal treasure trove of contacts and worth its weight in gold!
@EmeraldJade66
@EmeraldJade66 3 жыл бұрын
I still use a nice small compact rolodex to this day as well as a hardcover address/internet password book with alphabetical tabs. In today's busy world it's not easy to keep one up especially if you have to get started typing/writing all of your contacts on the cards but once they're all neatly alphabetized then you're good to go. To keep things organized especially to do with receipts, letters, bills, filing, etc... I still do it manually typing/writing because with today's technology you never want to take the chance of losing it should your device stop working then there's no way to retrieve it. I always say "write it down". Every room in my house has at least one pen/pencil and post-it-note pad(s) in a drawer. The old way is the best way. Better safe than sorry.

In 1981, Rock Hudson stayed the summer at my house in Georgetown (3310 - P street ).. If the walls could talk… I believe Elizabeth Taylor still had her "S" - street home and was still perhaps married to John Warner. He had a good many friends in D.C. and enjoyed a good party. He was a man loved by many !!!!

Hi Scott, Big fan of your videos and tours -- have taken many when I was in LA working -- going back to hearse days! A Rock story for you. A good friend's uncle was David De Mering -- had short film career. He was one of the airline pilots in "Plan 9 From Outer Space". He later worked at Universal in Prop Dept. He worked on "McMillan and Wife" - got to know Rock. My friend's parents, (Dave's sister) from Texas, were visiting David in LA. David was invited to party at Rock's home. The invitation said "Black Tie". He invited his sis and husband to come along. The wife went out and bought a formal gown, and the husband rented a tux. They go to the party to discover it's all guys wearing NOTHING but black ties. A few hours later, Rock made his appearance -- in full drag!

At 14:56 you flip past Lee Garlington. "...[Rock] told Mark Miller that Lee Garlington was one of the people in his life he had truly loved." - Sara Davidson, "Rock Hudson: his story" p142. They were lovers on and off for nine years, the relationship ending only because of the pressures of Rock's closetted life. Few photos of them together survive because the studio forbade them, but Lee was another hunk in his youth. He lives with his husband Paul in New Zealand. They feature in the recent doco "All that Heaven Allowed".
