I can't believe a producer would allow this to be released. For starters, it should be at least 2 minutes shorter.

It's April 2020, and I haven't heard this in years (decades?), I used to have it on vinyl. Todd and Utopia made some pretty " out there " music...in the opinion of most radio stations, anyway. These guys should have gotten TONS more airplay if for no other reason than their talent.
@ChToles3 жыл бұрын
I, too, have always been surprised that the later incarnation of Utopia didn't get more mainstream airplay. Their lyrics were usually reasonably cerebral (except for "Burn Three Times" which was pretty hilarious) but after Todd de-progged them they were definitely putting out catchy 3 minute ditties.

This song is so good it should have been a top ten hit? I have the album and lived on this music for years. But watching this retro video brings it back to life all over again!

According to wikipedia it was never a single. Hard to believe. It would have hit #1 on my chart.

@@citygirl5705 The album was supposed to be released in 1979 but kept getting delayed. I think the record company played it safe by not releasing a disco single in the middle of the "Disco Sucks" movement lol....Adventures did have 3 singles which was unusual for Utopia. "Set Me Free"(Their first top 40 hit), "The Very Last Time" and "Second Nature"(Which was close to a disco single)

Utopia always utilized their 4-part vocals so judiciously, so that the songs sounded so goddam BIG, and they were able to reproduce the bigness with just their 4 pieces of instrumentation, plus those dynamite vocals!

Uh, you somewhat minimize the role synthesizers had in pretty much all music Todd was involved in/with, even other groups.

The redheaded dancer that comes in around 1:11 looks a lot like Karen Darvin...Todd's then-wife. She was a very beautiful woman...might still be for all I know. Despite Todd's average looks and rock-geek reputation, he sure was able to pull a string of hot women...Bebe Buell, Karen Darvin, Michelle Grey...

Todd w/Utopia did a mock Beatles album. Rundgren was feuding with Lennon, he thought Lennon was a fraud and the album was his way of dressing John down. The album sucks.
@DonMacGillivray5 жыл бұрын
Pretty much incorrect, the minor "feud" had occurred seven years prior to that album being released which was a loving tribute to all four Beatles and wasn't directed towards Lennon in any way. Lotsa people love that (Deface the Music) record btw...

@@DonMacGillivray Lotsa people can kiss my ass including Mark David Chapman who was a fan of the album. If I'm incorrect so is Jake Brennan who did a whole episode covering this on his Disgraceland podcast.
