I fill them with the spackle then after sanding them I spray them with a clear gloss sealer. It's UV protected and water resistant.

How well would spackling and Mod Podge hold up if the painted rocks are placed outside…specifically rain?
@JessicaRocks Жыл бұрын
This is just a prep process. After I paint the rocks, I always seal with a spray sealer or resin, so as long as it's sealed properly, water should not be able to "loosen" up the ModPodge or spackle!

Thank you. Great video. Question: I am familiar with gesso but it's always liquid in nature but not labeled liquid gesso. How does this product calling itself liquid gesso different? or is it?
@JessicaRocks Жыл бұрын
I thi k it was that Sargent Art brand that I tried forst that called it "liquid gesso" (before I was familiar that they're all liquid!). I now use Liquitex gesso because it has better coverage!

Would you use this if you were using paint pens, or would the roughness damage the pen tip? Thanks!
@JessicaRocks Жыл бұрын
Paint pens are actually the EXACT reason I do it! When a rock is bumpy, it can damage the paint pen tips...if it's smooth, it's much, MUCH better!

Thanks for your response. I’m new to rock painting. Do you have a specific recommendations on supplies (pens/brushes, etc.?). Your videos are quite helpful and you have extraordinary talent ❤.

I may have too many favorites! Here's a link to my Amazon Storefeont, but if I had one recommendation it would be to get a set of Tooli Art Brush Pens and a Poaca PC1MR pen in black and white! www.amazon.com/shop/jessicarocks/list/DI6OXTO15I2E?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_aipsflist_aipsfjessicarocks_64JM0R3MEZXYT4A1J772&language=en_US

Hi there! I recently found your video, I never would've thought of spackle, what an amazing idea!! Its been very helpful but I had a couple questions. The mod podge says it takes 4 weeks to cure and feels a little sticky after letting it dry for 24hrs, how long do you wait before painting on it? Since you made this video, have you found any better ways of sealing the spackle before painting on it? Thanks in advance (:
@JessicaRocks2 жыл бұрын
Oh boy, well here comes my honest answer...I don't think I ever even read the back of the Mod Podge in all these years! 🤣 I don't even let it dry for 24 hours...I set it it front of my little fan while I'm working on something else and then base coat right over it. I don't know that I'd ever describe it as sticky though (it reminds me of watered down Elmer's glue and dries similarly). I will say that if I have bigger/deeper holes that I'm filling and I want to make sure the spackle stays put, I will resin over the spackle and they rough up the resin with a nail buffer when it's cured so it's not so slippery.

Can you use any standard white Jasso or clear chesso?
@JessicaRocks3 жыл бұрын
I have never used clear gesso before but I would bet it's similar! I started out using Sargent Art gesso, and have since switched to Liquitex white gesso because the quality is better! 😊

Does regular gesso work as well as Liquid gesso?
@JessicaRocks2 жыл бұрын
They're all actually liquid. Just the particular brand in this video calls itself liquid gesso. There are quite a few brands. Right now my favorite is the Liquitex gesso!

@@royayjavani7850 if you're in the U.S., yiu can get it at Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes. If not in the U.S. I would try some sort of hardware/home improvement store that has spray paint. Here's a link to one on Amazon: amzn.to/3LhGHhZ (affiliate link) if that helps!

Thanks for the tips! I just bought a random bottle of Acrylic Gesso at Walmart and I'm testing it out by recreating the Llama Unicorn rock you posted, but without the fun colors in the background. Do you think the Gesso works better on a plain rock as your base coat or acrylic paint? Or is it pretty much the same?
@JessicaRocks4 жыл бұрын
Now that I've found the gesso, I think I almost always prefer it as a base, because layering on the acrylic paint sometimes can get thick. I also like that it dries in a way that creates a "grip" for the paint that goes on top of it. I jave also toyed with putting a drop or two of gesso in paints that are hard to get good coverage with (yellow, red, orange, etc). I just squirt a little of the color in the paint tray then add a couple drops of the gesso and mix it up...it helps!
