Nice design/build! Runs smoothly and quietly, great job! I bet you got a lot more satisfaction out of building that rather than waiting for the ready-made Lortone. And this one will last a lot longer too, I'm sure.

I'm collecting ideas for using my table top wood lathe to power lapidary equipment. I like your pulley reduction system.

Thanks Kevin. I made this video to document the build for myself only. I later put it on KZbin to share it with family and friends. It has been running continuously for several months. I just kind of roll the barrels off, without stopping the motor, when changing grit. Sweet.

SWEET very nice you should make them to sell, I would buy one.

Seems like this is a lot of power for two barrels. I wonder if you could make a longer track (or a second one) and have space for 4?

That is about the only way to get something made in the USA and it works and it will last forever.

The tumbler has been running just about non-stop for 3 years and 11 months. The bearing on the output end of the motor started making noise so I replaced both bearings at the end of 2023. Being that the motor is 80 years old, I had a bit of a problem finding some. A bearing house in Ohio had 38 of them, in original boxes, siting on a shelf in the back. Sweet! Otherwise it runs very well.

How do you tension the belts?

I really like your tumbler. I have wanted to make one for sometime. I took a small red devil vacuum cleaner apart. I don’t suppose you could direct me on how to do it?

I would wonder if that motor is too weak and too high of a RPM for a tumbler.

How did you attach those pulleys to your shaft is it with just a set screw or does it have a set screw and the key way also?
@bobdietrich51463 ай бұрын
It's just a set screw with a flat filed on the shaft.

Nice tumbler! Love the old motor! Where did you find the 3/4 inch acrylic tubing? May I also ask the spacing width of the bars. I want to make a tumbler with 12 pound barrels. Thanks 😎
@bobdietrich51463 ай бұрын
I bought the acrilic tubing at a Fleet Farm store in Wisconsin. The 3/4" bars shafts are on 5" centers. That was a "swag" on my part, but it works fine.

@bobdietrich5146 you now just saw & replied to my questions? I asked you these questions 7 to 8 months ago. I have long ago made my own tumbler. Your late reply doesn't matter anymore...thanks

Nice craftsmanship works nice, but you don't need all that pully system. I've been building them for years now all you need is a 2" on the motor an a 12" on the drive bar,(make sure the 12" pully is solid for noise) nothing on the second bar. Works with four 24lb barrels an I'm my big miss piggy 50lb barrel. If your motor RPM is too fast use a voltage controller thier around 20 bucks. I've built several over the years never spent over $200 other than miss piggy barrel run around $120

That motor is very large. Is it massive overkill for this or does this project require more power than I imagine?
@bobdietrich51463 жыл бұрын
I was and still might add a second level of two more barrels. It's a 1/4 horsepower motor and was free. You use what you have, eh.
@beefmelt2 жыл бұрын
will you make me one? I already have the same barrels so I do't need those.

My mistake. I'm an old fart. I'll add here that the 1/4 H.P. motor run at 75 degrees Farnheit 24/7/365. Sweet!
