As a slave in Potipher's house, Joseph is granted favor. Potipher's wife notices him and forces Joseph to make a decision. Will he lie with her, or will he choose to deny her request and be upright before the Lord instead? Like Joseph, our actions reflect whether or not we revere the Lord and display the strength of our character when faced with temptation. Discussion Questions:
List reasons Joseph would have been tempted to give in to Potiphar’s wife? What would be enticing about this sin?
Joseph was in a situation where it would have been easy to feel he was entitled to sin or had a pass to sin because of all the wrong done to him. Can you think of situations where we feel the same way?
What examples can you think of where we are tempted to justify sin based on convenience and culture?
What reason did Joseph give for refusing Potiphar’s wife’s offer? (See Genesis 39;9)
What does it mean to be upright? How would you define integrity? How does Joseph demonstrate both of these qualities?
Would people consider you a woman who is upright? Why or why not? Why should we care to be upright, and how can we grow in righteousness?
