The thing is that this interview is seemed like it was for understanding "The origins of Funk", but *Funk has existed a few years before Funkadelic or Parliament* = Lee Dorsey, James Brown, Sly & The Family Stone, Dyke and The Blazers, Archie Bell & The Drells. .

Well, that's a whole other interview. George has given much credit to James and Sly for their influence in the past. But realize that P-Funk is practically a genre unto itself with various spin offs and solo acts, morphing to this day. Note that Bootsy claims more allegiance to George than James. Many would say that James Brown is the "inventor" of Funk but he was of the prior generation - so the title the "Godfather of Soul" never went away. P-Funk exists at the center of Funk - with people like Prince and Rick James being more towards the tail end of it (before it transforms into hip-hop) where Sly and James were at the beginning.

Frankie Lymon was a huge influence on Bob Marley and the Wailers as well. In fact before they changed their name to the Wailers they called themselves the Teenagers.
