Rockaway Beach Meets Hurricane Sandy

Rockaway beach gets huge waves as hurricane Sandy approaches in New York City. The sand replenishment that was used to replace the sand lost during the beach erosion caused by Irene last year is almost gone as you see on the video.

Wow that is crazy the ocean when all the way to the sand and board walk. I was born in Far Rockaway. The time when I lived out there; Far Rockaway didn't experience devastating Hurricanes like Sandy.

No the ocean water in Rockaway is very clean.But when there is a storm of this greatness it churns up the water from the bottom of the ocean. The "crazy foam" the day of the hurricane and the day before it hit was much darker than normal. There are many days when the water in Rockaway is tropical green and clear.
