La Jolla Cove is a special part of the San Diego coastline, with a cove that is sheltered from direct waves and reefs close to shore that harbor fish and sea life. It's easy access for snorkelers to swim among the reefs and see everything there.
The caves are mostly carved into the bluffs east of the cove, and one of them, the Sunny Jim cave, has a tunnel that is carved underground and has 145 steps going down to a platform inside the cave, allowing tourists to see it without having to swim into it from the ocean.
