Through much hesitation, I finally ordered one of these suction cup bike racks. I was torn between this at 189 Dollars on Amazon and 300+ dollar Seasucker. So I ordered this to try it our for a day and this is what I figured out.

Little update on my Rockbros, bought, installed, put my Canyon Spectral 8.0 2021on it, drove for 600km for about 7 hours, most of it on the motorway and around 100-110 km/h. Outside temperature was about 3 degrees Celsius and in some point a light rain. Got to my destination with bike still on it and suction cup hard solid. Stopped couple of times in first 300 km just to check the cups, after that I forgot that bike was on the roof.

So it's compatible with boost forks?
@HoodiiSzn2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the update
@stefantud3002 жыл бұрын
@@xinhengc It is, yes, but you'll have to buy specific adapters for the boost fork.

Don’t use tape. That can peel off. Moisten the suction cups before install. Better adhesion. Don’t measure. Put fork on front mount. Put rear wheel on car. Pick up rear wheel, move it over. Install rear wheel mount. Don’t install the front mount on windshield or sunroof. Rear mount ok on rear window. I drove 8 hours with no problem. Not a permanent installation. After two days of no travel, the white indicator on the suction cup plungers started to show. That means air is getting in under the cups. Reinstall it. You’ll have anxiety but it fades after a bit. This product works great if installed properly.

For anyone watching this, DO NOT install the front cups on glass. It can break sunroofs and windshields as stated in the manual. The rear can be installed on glass. DO NOT ppf the area you are going to suction to. It can rip it and then let air in and send your bike onto the middle of the highway. And finally you're supposed to get the cups and roof damp before installing to promote adhesion. Just some tips

These things are fantastic had one for almost 2 years never a problem, even had to install them in pouring rain a few times and they never move,190 miles is the longest trip I took them on I don't even think about it now. A little tip: Put the bike on the rack and then lift the whole thing into place in one go (only works for the single bike version obviously).

Just ordered mine. What bike you have, road or mtb? Mine is around 14,5kg hope it will handle it. Interesting tip by the way, will definitely give a try.. thanks a lot!! ;)

@@nutnaa I've transported a steel road bike (8kg) a gravel bike (9.5kg) and an old MTB at 13.5kg so you will be fine

Installed it backwards and suctioned the rear cup onto a film of plastic instead of the vehicle. The big manual books were made for people like you for legal protection.
@toddm20283 жыл бұрын
not to mention they tell you NOT to install on front windshield.

the plastic strip is a really bad idea . the rear sucker is now attached to a tiny plastic strip and not your car

Yeah they don't recommend for vinyl wrapped cars so I would put the 3m in that same category

Thank you for this! I’m in the same position between buying this one or the Seasucker for $300. Assuming you still haven’t had any issues with the Rock Bros?
@HighsideClyde3 жыл бұрын
To follow up with my previous comment, I bought the Rock Bros and tested it out today. So far it seems very sturdy! Also did not notice any marks or scratches on my car which I was concerned about. Only drove a few miles during my test but no complaints! Build quality also seems to be very good. I attached the front part behind my sunroof and the rear part on the rear window.

@@HighsideClyde Any problems since your last post? Did you test it on a highway or bumpy road?
@HighsideClyde3 жыл бұрын
@@kamentabakov5302 I’ve used it many times this spring. So far so good, done several 1.5 hour highway trips too. Only problem I think is due to the curvature of my roof (which isn’t really that much curve), so the suction cup nearest to the door only holds tight suction for about an hour. But even without that suction cup sucked down the rack is still super sturdy, so I have no worries. I also drive pretty aggressively on occasion but don’t think twice about the rack anymore. And FWIW, someone I know has a SeaSucker and said one cup comes unsucked often on that as well

Why would you use the tape protector? Were you not confident the car was clean? And if it wasn't clean wiping a cloth over it would have scrated the paint anyway.

I got a 1 cup model (1 big 8" cup at the front), but after 2 times it damaged my roof because it is not stable enough. So i returned it to Amazon and waiting for a 3 cup model.

But the one cup must be stick on the corner, not in the middle

amazing that it held i saw pictures of the manual and it says that your only allowed to mount bikes the other way around meaning the bike faces the direction of your car. front car = front bike , rear car is rear wheel..

Is it just me or the Trek bike from the beginning was never on the rest of the video 🧐 got me thinking... can i actually use it with 15x110 axle as well as 2.6" rear tires? please let me know if you can.
@TheSteddy043 жыл бұрын
You need adapters which are essentially little plugs which your axle will go through. I had my 2.8’s on it no problem at all 👍🏻

I lost that bet. I wondered if the suction cups were strong enough to pop out the windshield when you drove out from under the carport.
@steli89Ай бұрын
Why use the sunction cups bro? Just tape your bike with a normal office duct tape. Seems that’s your way of doing it.
@steli89Ай бұрын
By the way you should have read the manual. It would tell you NOT to place the bike in that position. You did everything wrong and still worked. You’re lucky.
@nathanaelvanschalkwyk12942 жыл бұрын
Why don't the they make the bike mount sideways that way there is less stress on the cups and the bike will be lower and more Sade.
